Grrrrrr
Big trip to 'town' today to pick up the ex's *real* wedding band. He has been wearing a white gold loaner that is a 1/2 size too big for him since our wedding. Even though the ring has been in for a while ~ that alone is a story ~ this is the first chance we have had to travel to Fredericksburg.
OK, I'll tell the minor story of the ring being in ~ not that you asked! After not hearing anything from Kay Jewelers about the ring, I called last week to see if they could track down its whereabouts. I was informed that not only was the ring in, but that it had been in since September 28th. I found that to be rather incredible since I was in their store picking up my ring on the September 28th! The gal on the phone said that it was her own handwriting on the order listing the notification date as 9/28 but then divulged that if the ring had really been in since then, it would have been sent back because it was not picked up in 30 days. She said she must have mistaken 9/28 for 10/28 but we still never received a phone call about the ring being in.
And now back today's story...
We got to the mall a little early & the ex was a real trooper about it since none of the stores were open. We waited a little bit & then headed off to Kay's. I could not believe how busy it was first thing on a Sunday morning. The first available salesperson was a lady who assumed that I was with a gentleman who was also standing at the counter & when he said he had already been taken care of, she went right on by me. I waited for her to get behind the counter & let her know that I needed assistance.
The ring comes out & it looks great, much better than the white gold loaner. We chose a tungsten carbide band for the ex so that it will hopefully keep up with him since he so rough on his hands. One thing that had not come up in the purchasing process was whether or not the ring would be able to cut off of Brian's finger if needed in an emergency. The sales lady gave us this incredulous look & commented that she could not believe that whomever sold us the ring did not mention that it could not be cut off. Just her tone & choice of words made me cringe at how she did not hesitate to cut a co-worker so rudely in front of customers.
The exchange about cutting rings off lasted quite some time, with the sales lady providing no insight other than to "call a hospital". In the meantime, the ex has tried on the ring & I could see that he was not pleased with its fit. We asked about our options in regards to returning the ring, trying to get some viable information out of the prissy sales lady of whom I have now developed a distinct dislike. An interesting point that I noticed is that she was very nervous over the ex having both rings at the same time. One we have already purchased & the other we had ordered ~ a total of under $400 worth of jewelry & she keeps annoyingly asking for one of the rings back as he is trying to compare them. The night we ordered the rings, we had at least $10,000 worth of diamonds out of the case & no one seemed to care less.
The ex asked to see some other bands in case we learned that the tungsten carbide band is not going to work. Although she said nothing, I got the sense she felt she had better things to do than to help us. The ex looked at several different rings, but she kept steering him to a plain white gold band over & over. Finally he had to tell her he was looking for something nicer. There was one etched, braided band that he liked but it was a bit pricey.
Finally we decide to go home with the tungsten carbide band. The ex will wear it a while & see how he likes it. We have 90 days to return it if we need to. Now comes the paperwork part. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to bring the ring's paperwork with us to the mall, but I assume since they have several computers available, miss priss saleslady should be able to find the transaction. The ex apologizes that we do not have the paperwork & you get the sense the lady is rolling her eyes internally. After some back & forth about how the process was done, she makes another comment about the paperwork & I inform her rather bluntly that we don't have it & she'll just have to look it up. I would have preferred to reach over the counter & slapped her silly but even *I* have some sense. LOL
That's all well & good but here comes the *grrrrr* part. While I am there, I ask to have my rings cleaned. I make sure to inform our prissy sales lady that the rings seem to be yellowing already & they are not two months old yet. She tells me that some people have to get their rings rhodium plated every 3 months. I reiterate to her that the rings are not yet even 2 months old. This information does not seem to sink in whatsoever.
I also ask her if their jeweler can do anything at all about the width of the rings ~ especially the engagement ring. It's much wider than I had anticipated & would like to have it be more comfortable. She said there's nothing that can be done. Of course, I will be getting a second opinion.
Off she goes with my rings to clean them only to come back right away to inform me that she has to keep my rings & have them repaired.
HUH???
It seems the large diamond in my engagement ring is loose already & she can't even take the risk of cleaning the ring. Repairing the ring & getting the plating done will take a week, which would mean that I would be without my ring for Thanksgiving & for my birthday. I tell her I will take the ring home, be careful with it & bring it in next week. She's quite unhappy & tells me of the risk I am facing about loosing the diamond & having to pay to replace it. For at least the THIRD time, I inform her that I have had the ring for less than two months. Then she tells me to keep the ring in a plastic bag instead of wearing it. My only thought is to get the plastic bag & place it over her head.
GRRRRRR
