Forgive me, LJ for it's been a while...

While I have been slacking on my LJ blogging, I have not been slacking on the other side of the computer screen. In no real particular order, this is what has been going on around the country home of late.

The past week or so has found us with two flat tires on the Prius. [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir had a flat on the 8th that resulted in both sidewalls being chewed up. Luckily the car/tire handled it well and and he was able to get off the highway safely. I took the car in the next day to Ron's Used Tires in Culpeper for a replacement tire since the remaining three tires have some life left in them. Imagine our surprise when this tire went flat on Tuesday of this week. After scorching someone's tail at Ron's, we got another replacement that seems to be just fine.

The 10th and 11th found us doing a Maryland marathon - three parties in two days. First up was [livejournal.com profile] aylinn's birthday bash in Frederick where I was surprised with a birthday card and yummy dark chocolate. From there we went to [livejournal.com profile] renniecub and [livejournal.com profile] insegnante's house for their annual Holidaze Party. We were treated to an inpromptu muppet show, French toast for Sunday brunch and as always we laughed a lot. Sunday afternoon found us at [livejournal.com profile] dreamtigress's place for Hogswatch. While we had to head for home at intermission, it was good to visit with her and some others folks-with-no-lj.

Serendipity being what it is, out of the blue <cough> a guy by the name of John Stanley stops by one day. Turns out he is the man who paved the driveway originally. Since having the driveway looked at was on our country home to do list, I asked John to give us an estimate for repair (and after some discussion) re-sealing. Once the price got down to a manageable number, we went ahead with the process and are currently waiting for the driveway to finish curing so that we can actually drive on it again.

John Stanley is a character and a half and was both amusing and informative to chat with. He's invited me to borrow his motorcycle lift anytime that I have need of one and has also volunteered to do any vinyl vehicle lettering that we might need at cost since that is one of his many hobbies. Turns out he also competes in punkin chunkin with a master electrician (of whose services we will be requiring in the near future).

Since Gregory gifted me with looms and yarns back in October, I have become quite the knitting fool (not to mention yarn stash-a-holic). After posting pictures of some of my finished hats on Facebook, a couple of friends asked if I would make custom orders. So far, I have knit and sold five hats! I was a bit anxious about the recipients being pleased with the final product, but my worries were dashed when I received some mighty fine complements on my hats. Alex, a four year old boy who was my first custom order, chooses to wear my hat over his favorite Spiderman hat. Wow! I beat Spiderman! And via JC's son, "John says its best gift I ever gave him". I am really jazzed that I could create something that makes people happy.

During the holiday crunch and our normal craziness, Gregory and I have been working on a 'special prjoect' that will be completed in January ... stay tuned!

Today found us doing a bit of shopping in Fredericksburg and, of course, we managed to have fun. We stopped by two places in search of a bed and were pleased to discover that both places have viable options for us that seem to be well made. We stopped for a snack and a drink at Starbucks and as it turns out, the creme brulee frappechino is pretty tasty (and yes, [livejournal.com profile] dreamtigress they can make it sans coffee). After tooling about the old town shops, we hit Sammy T's for dinner where [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir had the wonderful dilemma of many vegetarian choices on the menu. The food was yummy (and you know the company couldn't be beat either).

Tomorrow finds us on the road to Maryland for the Hack and Slash holiday show which is bound to be a hoot.
