2015 final weeknd of VARF
June 8th, 2015 02:30 pmThe last weekend of VARF is always bittersweet. We're tired and long to have a weekend to ourselves but it'll be a year before we see some of our friends again. This year's faire was my best sales-wise to date although my studio is far from earning its own keep (especially when you figure in mileage). I'm forever grateful to
daecabhir for his support of me and the studio in this endeavor.
Enough with the blather, let's get to the funny things that came out of people's mouths this weekend!
Enough with the blather, let's get to the funny things that came out of people's mouths this weekend!
- A male patron walking barefoot past the booth on the gravel path responded to his friends when they said he was nuts for going sans shoes ... "It's random reflexology!"
- A lady who came into the shop who declined my offer of picking up pottery ... "I put the Q in klutz!"
- When discussing yarn bowls with two patrons, when they learned that i was a loom knitter, one of them exclaimed, "So you're an authentic knitter!"
- Our neighbor across the way at VARF has dubbed us, Mr. and Mrs. Pottery. When she comes to visit us, she tells her husband that she is going to visit the Potteries.
- Our friend
dansr has dubbed
daecabhir the Ninja Sex Panda. - Soundbite of the day: "Give her a southern injection."
- We delivered a custom mug lid (and her mug) to
dansr from
dreamtigress. Upon seeing her spiffy new mug,
dansr's reaction? There was squealing and snorting. Dead squirrels fell from the trees. And to quote the brownie, I love her so much that my uterus is swelling and I want to have her leather babies.
If I was a beer...
March 3rd, 2015 07:43 pmA friend of
daecabhir's recently posted a challenge of sort on his Facebook page. For those friends liking the post, Scott would match a beer to your personalty.
And here is my brew...
"Your creative and artistic abilities are amazing. The fact that you've chosen to display those in pottery (among other things) seems fitting. For you I've chosen something as earthy and complex as you are. Old Neighborhood Oatmeal Porter by Mother Earth Brewing (North Carolina)"

No apologies
August 25th, 2014 10:15 amYup. I've not journaled in a while but I am going to make an effort to get back in the swing of things.
This pass weekend was opening weekend of MDRF and things were a bit weird at first, but nice weather and good energy on Sunday made a world of difference. Many friends made the effort to stop by Tessem Stoneware to visit
daecabhir and I which was a treat - in fact some of them even brought us treats.
Since time is of the essence today (who am I kidding, it is every day), here's the quotable quotes from opening weekend:
In the WTF department, when we were unpacking at Renniesylum North [tm] I discovered that somehow the tubing from CPAP went AWOL. It was last seen in Allen and Sherri's trailer, where it still be may lurking undetected. For night one, I ran out to Lowes, bought a dishwasher hose kit, and jury-rigged it on my CPAP. I was really brought of my ingenuity right up until the time that we went to bed and turned on said CPAP. The combination of rigid hose and internal ridges turned my CPAP into a freaking whistle. There was no chance of anyone getting sleep if I attempted to use it, so I went sans CPAP and got a completely crummy night's rest. Night two brought us to a different Lowes and an attempt at another hose (and a great Lowes employee). Once again, we got to Renniesylum North [tm] and once again, I set about jury-rigging my CPAP. While everything looked great, makeshift hose #2 wasn't going to work either. By this time, I was exhausted and ready to pass out.
daecabhir managed to make our last resort (cutting the one CPAP hose we had in half) work successfully and we both were able to sleep.

- I'm a chocolate alcoholic. ~ Bobbie (who works in the booth with us)
- Don't do that or I will give you a black eye with my boobs. ~ Me to Eric who was trying to undo my bra clasp.
- I am legally required to own this mug in the state of Florida. ~ Patron
- Lady by day. Wench by night. ~ seen on a T-shirt
- He's nice and juicy down there. #contextwouldonlycheapenit
- Jump on the biggest one you see! #contextwouldonlycheapenit

A weekend update, Panda version
February 9th, 2014 08:51 pmOnce again, I am nabbing a FB post from
daecabhir to tell you about our weekend.
Home again, home again, jiggety-jog. Not the most "productive" weekend on record, but our time was well spent in good company.
Today we journeyed to Manassas, where we spent a relaxing afternoon with Elizabeth Mycko, Henry Mycko, and their charming, very well behaved, Alex, at Monza. T'was good just to sit and talk about anything, without any particular goal, other than just enjoying the company.
On the way out there was a visit to The Opera House Gourmet, where chocolate, wine and pretties were procured. We said good-bye as the snow wafted gently down, and Anna and I proceeded to take advantage of being up in that neck of the woods.
There was McKays Used Books, where we traded in some books and DVDs, and took home some books, CDs and a DVD. Then to Sears, where we had possibly the most crass / offensive salesperson either of us have ever met - if he'd actually been trying to sell us something (we were on a "hit and run" mission), things might have ended badly. From there we went to Best Buy, where we also encountered customer service #fail (do not make a half-assed attempt at helping us, and then get pissy when you get called on it), whilst trying to find out if they had the LG G3 Pad in stock.
Dinner was at Pho Linh in Gainesville, yummy as always.
And now we are home, with puppies gnawing on each other in the background, because that's what they do.

Another weekend update!
February 2nd, 2014 10:26 pmCall me crazy, but two weekend updates in a row - woot!
This weekend was a fluke in many ways ... we got a lot done,
daecabhir and I had some face time with friends, and the weather was really stellar - especially for February.
On Saturday, we built firewood racks for all that wood that we split. Well, really all I did was hold some wood in place for him when needed. Once the first rack was done, I started loading it while
daecabhir built the second rack. By quitting time, there was a cord of wood stack in our new racks!
1painter42 came to visit and my honey hit the road to Baltimore to visit with frat buddies.
1painter42 and I enjoyed a yummy dinner at Bella J Cucina and then came back to house to discuss out websites, bathroom paint color choices, and pick out a picture for Tucker's portrait.
One of the discussions that
1painter42 and I had was about being an artist/creative/artisan. I don't consider myself to be very creative in the artistic sense. it's not putting myself down or anything, I just don't think that I am creative and I don't consider myself an artist either. Artisan? Yes. Artist? No.
1painter42 told me that I am full of shit FOUR times when I said that I am not creative. Emphatically each time. Just had to document that for posterity and stuff.
Today, the weather was even warmer and I was working outside in just a long sleeved T-shirt. At point, I called
njzoomom for a quick chat while eating a coconut Popsicle and sitting on the front porch in the sunshine. Take that, Old Man Winter. While Daecabhir made his way home, I set about getting a few things done. The racks in both the garage and on the front porch were filled with firewood, I devised a way to make our little cart that pull behind the mower stop dumping the logs out, installed a little bumper on our mailbox post so that door doesn't hit so hard, took down the blinds from the maste rbathoom, and washed the Endeavor.
When
daecabhir arrived home, we quickly got to work finishing up the firewood racks. Well, he started them while I washed the Prius, since it too was covered in road salt and dirt road dust. Once the third firewood rack was in place, I started carting wood from the backyard while rack number four was being built. We were able to get that rack about half filled before it got too dark.
Since we were both pretty beat, we opted to dine out and with Bella J Cucina so close, that's where we ended up. Funny stuff but yummy food!

January 5th, 2014 11:06 pmIt's get challenging coming up with witty subject lines all the time.
Duchess' eyes are doing much better with the antibiotic ointment. She hates it when I put it in, but it's a necessary evil. I reminded her that I have to put eye drops in my own eyes all of the time. She was not impressed. Brodie is full of energy and is a delight to have in the house. We're still accident free and today we worked on playing fetch, a lesson on not stealing socks from the laundry basket, and staying upstairs when the basement door is open. Of course, we still miss our Tucker very much. In the spring, we plan on planting something special - maybe a tree - and burying his ashes with it.
Today was another lazy-ish day in a string of lazy days.
daecabhir is still trying to get the crud completely out of his system and it's all too easy for me to take a nap in the late morning. And naps are much better when we get to take one together. We did manage to get a few things done over the weekend ... a bit of cleaning, old papers purged from the file cabinet, a bit of dusting in the dining room, laundry, sewing, and knitting. Well, okay, I did those last two, but my honey is nice enough to let me sew and knit when he cooks.
My current knitting project is a late xmas present for a friend in NJ. I started last month, but have had to frog it twice. It'll go out sometime this week. Also in the 'better-late-than-never' category, this evening I remembered that we never sent Aunt Terry her present ... even though we bought it last January! Work also happened on one of my IOU sewing projects from the holidays.
The bills have started to hit our insurance from my hospital stay. It looks like the lab bills will be a story since they are billed differently from the hospital and it looks like everything little thing is billed separately. ER doctor, hospital doctor visits, you name it. Ugh.

With August in town to pick up
dreamtigress, we had another holiday dinner that couldn't be beat. This time around we had a fresh ham in the rotisserie as well as all the goodies from the first first.
1painter42 was able to join us again and we introduced her to Cards Against Humanity - and she won! I managed to get in a little knitting while the gang played another game featuring pink bamboo and pandas (
daecabhir won that one).
The big news is that the puppy-with-no-name finally got his name! Our new furry child has been dubbed Brodie. As it turns out, Brodie is a Gaelic name and our little boy has his own tartan. He's making good progress with training in general but we still have a few accidents in the house now and again (only pee though).

Today we were joined by
njzoomom,
dreamtigress,
1painter42, and Wilma for a holiday meal and gift exchange. We enjoyed prime rib (
daecabhir dined on a Quorn roast), feta-pasta salad, broccoli-potato-cheese casserole, sage bread baked by
1painter42, baked brie, cheesecake and other assorted yummies things. Lots of fantastic presents were exchanged and much fun was had.
The yet-to-be-named puppy is down to just a few accidents in the house per day. During present time he curled up at my feet, wedged in between a pile of gifts and the couch. Duchess tolerates him mostly, but sometimes they cuddle up together. Auntie Justine has taught the pup all about ice cubes and he adores them.
