Yay for a country home weekend!

Had a wonderful day with [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir  - we slept in a little, got several things accomplished around the house, walked the dogs, made a trek to Fredericksburg and generally just had a really nice day.

First up on the to do list was to get the practice room cleaned up a bit, floors scrubbed, rat cage cleaned, etc. Then came office re-arranging - now the adorkable duo can be geeking at the same time in the same room.

[livejournal.com profile] daecabhir had warned me that he had 'really' packed the Prius for the trip down and he was NOT joking. Among other things contained in the wee car were three (count 'em three) shelving units! Once we got the Prius unloaded, we headed to F'burg for a BJ's/Home Depot run.

If there was any doubt that [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir and I are two peas in a pod, we discovered that we've both been jonsing over the same floor mat for the kitchen at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

With errands accomplished, we stopped for a bite to eat at Salsarita's. Neither of us had ever been to one before and we were pleasantly surprised with their very tasty food (and safe fare for my veggie boy).

For the record, [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir called himself a veggie boy. I just noted that he is _my_ veggie boy.

All the roofing estimates are now in. Sadly it looks like a metal roof is out of the question unless we trip over a winning lottery ticket tomorrow. There's a $1,000 difference between the lowest and highest quotes and we still have questions to be answered. Plus it's hard to choose a color of shingles by just trying to imagine them on the house. I might try to upload a picture of the house to one of the roofing sites that do the instant makeover sort of thing.

Questions -

What type of shingle, and what kind of longevity are you looking at ?

Did you price quote include they buy the materials and supply the labor, and/or could you maybe do a deal where you buy the supplies and they do the labor ?

Can you get any samples of the shingles to do an at home comparison ?
