Off we go

The ride out was nice until we approached Sperryville - which was about closed for a parade & carnival. Traffic was backed up for a few miles before town with folks getting their "floats" ready for the parade. This included every fire & rescue vehicle for a 50 mile radius as well as a dozen "Miss or "Mr Rappahannock so-n-so" vehicles. Pickup trucks decorated with an explosion of garland rounded out the "floats".
While we could have easily joined in the parade we decided it was best to get our butts up on the mountain.
The next surprise in our little road trip came when getting onto Skyline Drive - the fee for motorcycles is now a whopping $10 per bike. I think Brian was shocked to learn that there was a fee at all while I think the last time I was on it, the fee was like $2.50. It was here that I discovered that despite being a lifelong VA resident, my esteemed tall Husband had never been on Skyline Drive before.
The ride down to Lewis Mountain was a nice one, although it would have been even better if we could have taken time to stop at the overlooks. Since we were already so late in joining up with folks, we kept moving. Well, mostly moving; we had to stop for deer several times; including a doe with a fairly newborn fawn. I was tempted to stay & watch them a bit but I had a car that had been trying to read bumper stickers that I do not have. Sure hope the guy was a licensed proctologist!
Once we got to camp, we had no trouble finding our friends & were treated to a dinner right off which we inhaled since it was so late by now. We enjoyed some good chat, a roaring campfire & lots of laughs before we turned in for the night.
