When a window opens (or the sky has fallen)
In preparation for a little camping trip we are doing this weekend, Brian insisted that I set my tent up. He suggested that all the pieces may not be in the bag. He should know me better than that by now. ::: eye roll ::: (I was glad that set up the tent though, it needed to be aired out.)
Amazingly, I remembered how to set the tent up after ten years. After spraying it inside & out with some Febreeze & letting it air out a bit, I figured it was time to introduce Tucker to the tent since I figured he would be sleeping with us.
Tucker jumped right in the tent with no hesitation & was really happy to have me on the floor with him. Since it was such a nice day, I went inside to get a pillow so that we could hang out in the tent & relax. Brian called while Tucker & I were 'camping' on the front lawn & we chit-chatted a bit.
aaaaahhhhh! How nice!
WOOF!
Tucker let out a HUGE bark & was focused on something across the drain field, I rolled over on my stomach so I could see what had gotten his attention.
Four deer stood out from the tree line looking at the tent.
Tucker's gaze was riveted on the deer & his muscles started to tense.
In the next instant (with me on my tummy & still on the phone with Brian), Tucker lunged at the tent's screen window at the deer. With me frantically trying to grab his collar, get more upright so that I would have some strength to hold him back & tell Brian what was going on, Tucker kept lunging into the window. On the third or fourth try, there was a horrible ripping noise & Tucker was gone in a flash after the deer. The deer were gone in something faster than a flash.
This left me underneath a now collapsed tent, still on the phone with Brian & still stretched out in my last desperate attempt to grab Tucker's collar.
Surely if the whole thing was on video, we could make a fortune. Or at least enough to buy a new tent!
Fortunately Tucker was not gone long, having lost the deer trail.
The tent window is ripped the entire width & then some. The side of the tent has a foot long gash. The window can be closed up from the inside, but the wall must be repaired before we leave tomorrow.
When Brian got home from work, we set the now wounded tent up again so that we could make sure the air mattress fit inside. (It does.) Of course, a ready mattress called loudly to Brian & he crawled inside to give it a 'test rest'. I came to join him & it was not long before Tucker bounded in the tent & onto the air mattress before we could stop him.
We found out that not only can the air mattress hold up to the weight of Brian, Tucker & I, but it is also strong enough to withstand his claws. Too bad the tent is not made of the same stuff! If Tucker was happy before to have me in the tent with him, he was in ecstasy to be laying between Brian & I with his head on our pillow!
