Real news (& Happy 4th & Stuff)
July 2nd, 2005 01:56 pmWork being... well... work, I have not had much time to update my LJ from the office & because I am a silly thing, I don't want to waste home time with such matters so my LJ has been kinda ignored for a bit. However, today I am home & writing so that the throngs of you that come to peruse my banter will finally be fulfilled.
On the home front, Brian & I are at the beginning of a home renovation journey. This time we are ripping up all the flooring (with the exception of the two bathrooms) & replacing it with laminated flooring. Any doubts that we had about this being the right choice were dashed completely when we pulled up the first carpet in the spare bedroom & discovered just how much dirt lives under clean-looking carpeting. When we yanked the hallway carpeting a few days later I was shocked that nothing had actually taken root in the dirt collected there.
Brian & I are doing this huge undertaking by ourselves. While I have always been confident that we can do it, do it well & complete the task in a reasonable amount of time, Brian has not been so fast to come on board with the project, but I think he's with me now. So far, we have the spare room (new) flooring down, the hallway (old) flooring up & we had planned to start on the bedroom today, however we woke up to a dubious surprise...
...Our heat pump died! It was really hot in the office last night & I even thought to myself, "Gosh self, I hope the AC thingie is OK" but you know how that goes... if you say something like that out loud it comes true. I am here to tell you that once the idea pops into your head it is already too late. LISTEN to your head!
At any rate, motivation to begin the flooring in the bedroom has been AWOL. We did however get a lot accomplished today. Brian painted the molding for the spare room while I worked on mulching an area out in the front yard where my hostas & lone rose bush live. Work on the garden stuff ended abruptly when a killer toad made himself known to me & made me scream. ("Yaulp" as Brian puts it.)
I am hoping we can start on the bedroom today at least - pacing ourselves with the heat. We were lucky to have someone come out right away to pronounce our heat pump dead. The replacement will most likely set us back five grand that we did not budget for provided that we go with a better unit - which we both think makes sense. Any insight would prove helpful, although we will most likely be making the decisions very soon. Either that or we will be turning our entire home into a sauna.
