pandasheart: Panda's Heart (pony welcome)
It's get challenging coming up with witty subject lines all the time.

Duchess' eyes are doing much better with the antibiotic ointment. She hates it when I put it in, but it's a necessary evil. I reminded her that I have to put eye drops in my own eyes all of the time. She was not impressed. Brodie is full of energy and is a delight to have in the house. We're still accident free and today we worked on playing fetch, a lesson on not stealing socks from the laundry basket, and staying upstairs when the basement door is open. Of course, we still miss our Tucker very much. In the spring, we plan on planting something special - maybe a tree - and burying his ashes with it.

Today was another lazy-ish day in a string of lazy days. [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir is still trying to get the crud completely out of his system and it's all too easy for me to take a nap in the late morning. And naps are much better when we get to take one together.  We did manage to get a few things done over the weekend ... a bit of cleaning, old papers purged from the file cabinet, a bit of dusting in the dining room, laundry, sewing, and knitting. Well, okay, I did those last two, but my honey is nice enough to let me sew and knit when he cooks.

My current knitting project is a late xmas present for a friend in NJ. I started last month, but have had to frog it twice. It'll go out sometime this week. Also in the 'better-late-than-never' category, this evening I remembered that we never sent Aunt Terry her present ... even though we bought it last January! Work also happened on one of my IOU sewing projects from the holidays.

The bills have started to hit our insurance from my hospital stay. It looks like the lab bills will be a story since they are billed differently from the hospital and it looks like everything little thing is billed separately. ER doctor, hospital doctor visits, you name it. Ugh.

"When the needle points to the sky, you are pulling in the energy of Spirit. When it returns to the cloth, you are bringing that energy down into the project. When the needle points down to the earth, you are drawing in earth energy (extremely powerful when you wish to manifest things on this plane). When it comes back up through the cloth, you are bringing that energy into the project. Likewise, when knitting, your needles are working with sky energy, but your yarn is a representation of earth energy – together, just as in stitching cross-stitch or needlepoint, you are creating balance in the work.”

After two rainy days, we had a glorious day here in Virginia with amazing weather; there was a light breeze and crisp blue skies. All the windows in the house were open, including the studio screen door. While I would have liked to enjoy more time outside, I still have lots to get accomplished in preparation for VARF so I worked on crossing things off of my faire-prep to do list.

Thanks to my most awesome sister, [livejournal.com profile] dreamtigress, I had the electronic artwork needed to create signs for credit card acceptance and finding P3 on Facebook (aka the Book of Faces in faire-speak). The art was printed out onto fabric sheets made for the inkjet printer and then I sewed them into signs. Also created on the sewing machine today was a bagholder to store plastic bags in at the booth, and I added trim on one of my chemise shirts. I made plans for my Prancing Pony Pottery banner but couldn't really start on it because I am just about out of navy thread.

In other sewing news, I've finished sewing all of the fan pouches that I had planned on stocking for VARF and made covers for the stools that came from Craigslist (they match the tent). I've probably stitched a few other things but my brain is a little fuzzy now; in part due to the peche lambic I am enjoying. The perfect drink for Beltane me thinks.

The kiln firing on the 29th went well - another glaze load. With no studio time recently, I don't even have any greenware waiting for kiln time at this point. Hopefully I can get some quality clay time soon.
pandasheart: (celt flame pony)
Woosh! Things are moving so fast I might need a seat-belt soon.

The glaze firing on the 24 went off without a hitch. One yarn bowl ran but came off the shelf with no breakage. Looks like smokey Merlot really needs to mixed thoroughly at least twice before dipping any pots in it; if not, it comes out looking like a translucent brick red-brown. The pieces are still going up for sale because they're pretty in their own way. There's a few really good looking mugs and it seems that textured interiors on yarn bowls and bread baskets are getting a lot of attention.

Speaking of yarn bowl with textured insides - there's currently an order in the works for one - a birthday present to be sent to Texas.

Friday found me in Culpeper for a few errands and a delightful lunch with [livejournal.com profile] njzoomom. It was nice to take some time and chat - a little vacation from the hectic.

The weather has been really wonderful here for the last few days. Pretty much everything has turned green. The daffodils had a shortened visit due to the last cold snap, but the lilacs are blooming and smell so wonderful. It looks like most of the trees and grasses we planted last year are still alive.

The cover for the tent has been completed (it looks even better than I hoped) and I made the tent leg covers today while [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir sorted out the best way to tie the tent down. Turns out that making 2" bias tape is pretty easier (especially when compared to making 1/2") and I'm glad that ended up going with the manual bias tape tips.

We have two stools that I found on Craigslist that we'll be using at faire; I just need to make covers for them and we will probably cut the legs down a little to make them more comfy.

Things are coming together - even if it's quite crazy.

Fun?

pandasheart: Panda's Heart (huh?)
Once again I figure that I must be having fun because is flying by very quickly. With VARF looming closer and closer, the list of things that must be done seems to be getting bigger.

Sunday's bisque firing went well; the only hitch is that once again the 04 cone did not bend at all but the pottery seems just fine. A good deal of bisqueware has been glazed and the kiln is filled again and set run tomorrow at cone 6 for glazing. There's another glaze load to run after that once I finish getting those pots all glazed. There's been no clay time in a while and I miss it.

Allison's friend in NC wants three spoonrests but is in the middle of moving so we'll until she's settled to work up the order.

After having along talk and some quality time with brushes, Q-tips, and oil, the Kenmore is back in action. There's no time for a fussy sewing machine now! There are more gray fan pouches finished, a lot almost done, and three dozen more that are cut and ready to run through the serger.

Our feastware came today and it's really nice. Hopefully we will look fashionable while munching our goodies while in the shire.

Finally found a small cutting board at GoodWill for [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir to try his hand at making extruder dies. Also scored were some battery-operated candles to stick in candle holders in my display, and a cross-stitch kit which yielded a really nice piece of lace for clay, canvas for pin sashes, and a small piece of material for bias tape. Not a bad thrifting day for under four bucks.

Speaking of bias tape, as it turns out the Simplicity bias tape maker was a complete bust. It didn't feed hardly at all and got stuck at every seam. Although it was past 30 days since my purchase  I asked Amazon to make an exception and take it back for a full refund - which they did. I've already purchased a manual 1" maker and have a 2" tip on order for the tent cover trim.

Nice catch-up call today with [livejournal.com profile] dreamtigress - since she's been through 'first faire jitters' she's a great source of both information and support. Thank you sister o' mine!
pandasheart: Panda's Heart (huh?)
After having to turn the AC earlier this week, [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir and I put the flannel sheets back on the bed since it will be dipping down into the 40's for the week. We opened up the house early on in the day but had to close it back up since we were getting chilly. The day was gorgeous though; the sky was brilliantly blue after last night's wicked storm. (We were under tornado watch for a bit yesterday evening.)

Today was bath day for the dogs and they got their Frontline treatment. Tucker has been on his maintenance dose of Adequan for a two months now and I have noticed that he starts to get gimpy around the three-week mark. We'll have to talk with Dr. Rushing to see if we can tweak his dose to keep him limber.

A friend of a friend pinged me about buying a few pieces of pottery which really made my day. Looks like I will be sending some spoon rests to North Carolina soon.

Apparently I have used up my sewing fu - for some reason the Kenmore started having fits and doesn't want to sew anything properly now. After fighting with it for two days, I gave up and popped [livejournal.com profile] njzoomom's old Singer in the table and while it sews the test fabric just fine, it doesn't want to sew fan pouches or the broadcloth for bias tape. While I will do the bulk of the 'big' sewing on tent cover with the serger, I need a regular machine to be working for fan pouches, Mike's wrap pants, and the tent dags - not to mention chair covers and what ever else pops up.

In knitting news ... Oh wait. There is no knitting news because I have been so busy with everything else that I haven't have time to knit at all this month.

The best husband in the world not only helped me lay out 14 yards of fabric to cut down to the panels that we will measure and cut tomorrow for the tent cover but also did all the math to help make sure the angles would work with the fabrics that I bought. And then he took me out to dinner. He rocks my world - time and time again.

I've got a few more greenware pots to clean up in preparation to run a bisque firing tomorrow. That will leave me with everything left in the studio ready to glaze - which means I will have at least more glaze firings to run (and all the glazing to do) in the coming week.

Our faire flatware has been purchased and should be here next week. My Panda looked over the mugs that I have done this evening and picked one that he likes so that he will have it for faire (he still has to choose his glaze for it though). I'll be using a mug that came out really very nice ... right up until the time where I tried to knock a glaze run-off with a hammer. It took out a small chunk of the bottom edge, but I sanded it down and the mug is still usable. Let that be a lesson to me!
pandasheart: I am pony! Hear me roar! (rapidash)
After kicking off the glaze kiln at 8 am and seeing my honey off to work, I set about with my day. In no particular order, here's what I got accomplished:

  • Sewed the final touch on a few fan pouches and then fought with the Kenmore sewing machine. Gave up after several tries, two new needles, a thread change out, removing the base plate and blowing all the guts with compressed air.

  • Saved us over $500 on our homeowner's policy. I called Liberty Mutual to find out why our policy had hit with a 30% increase and after a re-quote, the policy down. Just for the asking.

  • Two loads of laundry done and put away.

  • Dishwasher ran and dishes put away.

  • Wrapped presents (we have a lot of May birthdays)

  • Brought the garbage out and the empty can back in.

  • Change the padlock on the trailer.

  • Found a padlock for the cashbox cable.

  • Played with the cover for my chair to use at VARF. Not happy with the results yet so nothing hit the sewing machine.

  • Paid some bills.

  • Left a message for the chimney guy.

  • Made a yummy dinner.

  • Loaded two boxes of fans into the trailer.

  • Condensed some of my stuff from three bins to two bins in the basement. Stowed extra blankets in one of the empty bins. Stowed pillows in the cedar chest. We have a LOT of spare pillows!

There's probably a few more things that I have forgotten but all in all, it feels good to have gotten so much done.

Now to check the kiln again, it should be reaching temperature soon and kicking off.
pandasheart: (whistlejacket)
Yesterday was a Culpeper day and after I stopped to count them up, I realized that I had made ten eleven (I just recounted) stops during the course of my day. Among the highlights...

  • A nice lunch with [livejournal.com profile] njzoomom at the China Garden.

  • Got myself a fancy-schmancy house key so that I find it easier on my key ring.

  • Scoring some decent music CDs and a big bag of sewing notions at GoodWill.

  • Getting rid of more stuff we don't need at GoodWill.

  • Finding yummy manicotti at Aldi's.

  • Settling on a case for my sunglasses because it's really pretty and after looking for weeks I gave up.

Today was another glazing day in the studio and the kiln is ready to fire tomorrow. There are still pots to be glazed but I want to see how the smokey merlot fires before I glaze more.

[livejournal.com profile] daecabhir's pinky is doing well. He's down-graded to a regular band-aid from the huge, winged finger tip affair. He heals quickly which is good thing[tm].

After my honey helped me noodle through the tent cover pattern last night,; he made the most excellent suggestion that I should try making one with scrap fabric before trying the real deal. I knocked a test cover out this afternoon and it came out as planned. Yay for a really helpful partner who is good at sorting this stuff out.
pandasheart: (celt flame pony)
My poor [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir smashed his pinkie in the car door Friday morning on his way to work. After a few phone calls and pictures of said smashed finger, it was determined that a trip to ER/urgent care was not needed. With this trauma though, it was an easy decision that we needed some R&R, so Saturday evening found us in the most excellent company of Spyke and Majack for dinner, drinks and hot tub time.

Sunday was spent sleeping in really late and then playing tent tetris to figure out the best set-up for VARF. Since we had dragged out a lot of shelving, we went ahead and dismantled the needed units and loaded them in the trailer. We also figured out a back drop (some ultra-cheap twin-sized sheets from Goodwill - brand new and in navy) that should work just fine.

Today was a glazing day in the studio. The smokey merlot has been mixed (it takes a LONG time to mix up 25 pounds of dry glaze). More fan pouches have been started as well.

Fired!

April 10th, 2013 10:41 pm
pandasheart: I am pony! Hear me roar! (rapidash)
The first bisque firing in the Skutt went well with the exception that the cone (^04) never bent. The pottery looks, feels, and sounds bisque-fired so I'll just chalk this one up to a 'what-the-heck'. thing. I did have one firing in the Duncan that did the same thing and all that pottery turned out okay. The firing lasted 12.21 hours. Nothing blew up. The kiln vent system seemed to work well.

Speaking of "what-the-heck' moments, today's temperature hit the 92 degrees and I kicked on the AC after sweltering in the house yesterday with the kiln going. So much for spring.

Today's studio time was spent throwing a few items - some larger mugs (well, they don't have handles yet) and a vase; cleaning up some things from yesterday, and emptying the kiln. There was also some sewing time for fan pouches.

The flu dregs still have me me captive and while I am blowing my nose less, I am still coughing and was so sleepy by mid-morning that I crashed for a nap.

Terry Tessum surprised me with a call this afternoon. He said that he had been thinking about the mugs that I brought to show him and said that 'potters make the inside of pots' ... meaning that we can trim the outside to make it into what we want, but the inside has be there to start with. I asked him if he could hear the light bulb go off. Sadly, none of the bread baskets that [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir and I made while we were at his studio survived the bisque firing; Terry thinks that he may have forgotten to tell or show us something that he does in the process. I think that that we were more worried about getting the creation technique down-pat than making a final product. (All of the bread baskets that I fired in my bisque firing made it  through okay.)
pandasheart: I am pony! Hear me roar! (rapidash)
If that's not a real product, it should be because I would buy it! Yes, the flu is still lingering in me and doesn't seem to be ready to give up it's grip quite yet. While today found me not coughing quite as much, I hope you've bought stock in Scotties tissues because I am going through a lot of them. I think that I've paid my penance to the sick fairy and should be able to stay healthy for a good long while.

And I would like that 'while' to include Friday's mammogram and ultrasound. Seems that yesterday's mammogram has turned up a little something that they want to take a better look at on the right side (last year was the left).

Yesterday was a bit of a marathon day - after the 'pictures', I hit up the big GoodWill in F'burg in search of cutting boards for us to try to make extruder dies with. While I struck out in that department, I found a few pretty awesome deals including: 4 yards of broadcloth for 99 cents, some fake flowers to use in displaying my vases, a few odd tools for the studio, and a neat shawl that is faire-friendly. Another curious find, although it did not come home with was a small paint booth that was practically new for $35 (they cost about $100 new). Once I had gotten a burger at Five Guys (yummy), I went to Joanns and came away with a sexy 'port wine' colored cotton to create the trim for my tent cover, some cotton for bias tape trim on fan pouches, and an angle ruler to help me make the above-mentioned bias tape. The final stop was BJs for grocery-type stuffs. It was good to get out after being home sick for a week, but I overdid it and was feeling pretty puny by the evening.

Today found me in the studio for a bit and another two bread baskets have been created. I really need to spend some quality time on the wheel but didn't have the energy for that today.

Intuit is holding another Small Business Growing campaign - where entrants have the chance to win one of fifteen $5,000 grants. If you'd like to help me out, just visit the site each day and vote for me (Prancing Pony Pottery) from now through May 12th. It's that simple!
pandasheart: (whistlejacket)
Get it? Gag line instead of tag line? High-larious as my Panda would say.

The flu seems to like me and has completely over-stayed its welcome. I was supposed to visit with [livejournal.com profile] 1painter42 today and wasn't able to do so because of the silly sickness.

There has been some progress on fan pouches for both [livejournal.com profile] dreamtigress and P3, with two dozen pouches going out in today's mail to B'more. Aside from _all_ of the fan pouches, I still need to work on my tent cover, make a pair of wrap pants for my brother-in-law, Mike, and a chair cover for my camo chair for VARF. Hmm ... speaking of chairs, a certain husband of mine needs to think about what he would like to sit on during faire.

Tomorrow is mammogram day, oh joy. That was sarcasm, just in case you missed it in whatever font you're reading my blog in. I was hoping to move to the progress every-other-year deal but with last year's lump scare, there's no way they'd let me skip one this year.

Speaking of my blog, I am not in love with some of the changes that LJ has made but, much like Facebook, just how much can I complain for a service that I don't pay for? Not a whole lot. Well, actually I can complain the same amount as if I was paying for it, but it wouldn't do any good in either case.

With any luck, Wednesday will be a studio day. I want to make more baskets and yarn bowls. Plus I really need to throw more since I have been doing a lot of hand-building lately. Hopefully next weekend will find us hooking up the kiln vent system. There's a full load of pottery to glaze yet and about a half a kiln of greenware already.
pandasheart: Panda's Heart (huh?)
Oh. Well, I probably messed up that quote, but I think you get the idea.

Another post that will probably be reduced to bullet points, but that is how I am thinking these days.

Knitting - Two more hats charity have been finished and another cast on. This is a great stash buster for using up odd yarn that is taking up space in my stash bins and will hopefully make someone happy once I find a charity to donate them to where I don't have to mail them anywhere. And the knitting keeps my head from spinning right off!

Pottery - The extruder has been installed and I've made my first two baskets. While I am pretty proud of them, they need to get better and I'll be working on them during my next studio time. Four more yarn bowls are drying. I tried texturing the inside of the bowls this time and can't wait to see how these fire. Tomorrow will find us picking up the kiln, vent systems, kiln furniture, and more shelving from Gail Holle. Good thing too because I have still have the last load bisqueware to glaze and fire and I really want to do that with the vent system in place.

VARF - Well, this would be I'm going a bit crazy. After spending way too many hours in fabric stores, I finally picked out the fabric for the tent's costume - all 14 yards of it! My tent will be navy and tan with (most likely) burgundy trim. [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir most the most excellent suggestion of putting up the tent and playing with the shelf configuration. We need to keep our options open since we won't know exactly how to set up until we get our space assignment the week before faire opens. A fan order has been placed and fan pouches are in the beginning stages of constructions - I have to make enough stock for me at VARF and get on jump on stock for [livejournal.com profile] dreamtigress. Procured for above sewing ventures is a bias tape maker. The tent alone will require over 40 feet of trim alone.

Health baloney - My hips are hurting less these days and the only significant change that I have made is to get a 1/4" lift in my right shoe. The tendonitis in my right arm flares up now and again but I am trying to take it easy on it. Drug #1 at half-dose is not bothering me when taken at night, I am undecided about going to full-strength; I'll probably make a decision next week.

The adorkable duo just celebrate their 14th month-a-versary. Yes, we that sappy and adorkable. You're not really surprised, are you?

And just because I have not said it here in a while - I have the best husband on the planet.
pandasheart: I am pony! Hear me roar! (rapidash)
Skipped the new medicine on Sunday and was nausea-free for the whole day - it felt great!! The doctor's office finally called back this morning and they said it would be weeks for the nausea to go away. I let her know that wasn't an option and I kind of doubt that it will go away because I am pretty sure that the side effects is due to another one of my medications. The nurse and doctor will re-group and call me back again. In the meantime, I am staying clear of the new med.

The shawl has been blocked and is now dry, I am pretty pleased with how it looks. It's a pretty simple design and stitch but I wanted something practical for faire use.

The next project is already on the loom - a magic scarf for [livejournal.com profile] dreamtigress from some eyelash yarn that she had bought to play with. It's easier to knit that I had anticipated but just as messy. Unexpected was the challenge of trying to join the two skeins together. Some needle and thread to the rescue!

The kiln is one shelf from being full and I will probably go ahead and fire it this week so that I can bring some examples of my current work to Terry as he requested. I asked him if he was needing a good laugh. <wry smile >

Measured the First Up tent (it's like an EZ-Up) so that I could start planning on making a cover for it for VARF. Now to find 12 yards of suitable fabric in colors that I like and that go well together. For the most part, the construction is straight lines which I cane usually sew fairly well. I do want to be a little tricky and put dags around the edges. I'm pondering getting a bias tape machine since I go through a lot of bias tape with fan pouches and skirts anyway and the tent will take 14-17 yards for the dagged edges.

So much time and so little do.

Oh wait!
pandasheart: Dragonfly (dragonfly)
[livejournal.com profile] daecabhir and I are getting ready for the last weekend of MDRF. The last weekend of faire is always bittersweet ... we are tired and ready for a break but we'll will miss Revel Grove for the next nine months.

This week there was a lot of knitting and some sewing but not enough pottery. My hubby has sexy new wrap pants - even if I did screw up where to put the patterned fabric (it's a visual) and a bandanna to match. There was a custom sewing job completed which will be delivered this weekend along with three pieces of pottery.

If you have a moment, please send some good energy to [livejournal.com profile] 1painter42 and her hubby - he is back in the hospital.

pandasheart: Panda's Heart (huh?)
Hard to believe that the week is almost over! There has been lots of laundry, a bit of pottery, sewing, more laundry, lawn mowing, and knitting. There are two more yarn bowls to go into the kiln with the next bisque firing and I have now created two pairs of fingerless gloves - including a pair with a thumb! [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir has a new pair of wrap pants (he'll debut them on Day of Wrong).

Time for bed!
pandasheart: Panda's Heart (pony welcome)
[livejournal.com profile] daecabhir and I spent last week in the OBX with our beach buddies. This is a group that has been getting together for many years now; it's a dynamic group and the exact number of folks changes from year to year (this year's group was about 23 people). The house we rented was in the 4x4 section of Corova and had 16 bedrooms. The weather was phenomenal all week with only one cloudy day. Sadly the pool was not heated and remained a bit chilly through out the week but the hot tub worked just fine.

We did what you're supposed to do while on vacation - slept in and ate too much!

While we enjoyed this week with friends, we didn't put down our deposit for next year; there are other places that we would like to see and, well, maybe, we are just a little greedy about spending time together alone.

On the way home from NC, we stopped at Cracker Barrel for lunch and I had some of the best fried chicken ever. Yummy! Their Cranberry-Apple iced tea was also a delightful find. Sadly their  vegetarian offerings are practically nil unless you count breakfast foods.

While at the beach, I booked my first two-day craft show (Augusta, VA) that will be held in November. With the Taste of Culpeper already booked and my application for the Eagles craft show, I've now got four show dates booked for this fall.

Egads - now I need to spend some time in the studio!

I also need to spend some time sewing since [livejournal.com profile] dreamtigress needs some fan pouches; there was some quality time spent with the sewing machines yesterday and several pouches in are process and will be complete for the weekend.

Speaking of the weekend, it looks like we will have decent weather for faire (although a bit of rain is creeping into the forecast).

Looks like the critters helped helped themselves to whatever figs were left on the tree. There are some green ones but they won't ripen with the cooler temperatures settling in.

Mom's computer is dead and sitting in our office so that we can hopefully get it resurrected. Wish me luck!

pandasheart: (whistlejacket)
This is the last 'free' weekend that [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir and I have until November and we are going to make the most of it. Later today, we'll be heading over to [livejournal.com profile] 1painter42's place for a visit with she and her hubby. Before we go, we've got a few things to get accomplished around the house - some progress on the electrical work downstairs, selling the mini fridge (finally, we hope), packing up stuff for eBay sales and a haircut for my honey. Tomorrow will be a studio day for both [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir and I - there will be mutual clay therapy and a lot of adorkableness.

This week gave me two days in the studio back to back. Some pieces were created and my studip is much cleaner now. We had another contractor in to give us estimates on some of bigger projects we want to accomplish and the suggestion has come up to install a French drain for the studio (so guess what I am researching).

Also this week there has been a lot of sewing. The most recent object of my attention have been fan pouches for [livejournal.com profile] dreamtigress. So far this year, I've made over 150 of them! Hopefully they sell well for her at the booth and other venues.

The ninja project of earlier in the week has been revealed. I bought some touch up paint and fixed all the paint dings in the Prius from the gravel road plus the key mark down the driver side from Baltimore. [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir was happy so that's one for the win column.

No sales this week at the farmers' market; better luck next week.
pandasheart: I am pony! Hear me roar! (rapidash)
A full on antibiotics and my right ear still has not popped. Oh, it teases me now and again and feels like it will pop but it doesn't.

It's a bit crazy making (but at least it doesn't hurt).

Prancing Pony Pottery had its first sale to a stranger today at the Culpeper Farmers' Market. We had good weather today and a nice breeze kept things from getting too hot. My most awesome [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir slipped a note into my business supply box for me to when I unpacked stuff.

Speaking of pottery, I decided to try my hand at a yarn bowl and carved out a groove for yarn in the square bowl that I had the other day. So far it is drying with the cut straight (they tend to flair out and become unruly). Of course, we still have to make it through two firings.

More fan pouches are underway in effort to have enough stock for [livejournal.com profile] dreamtigress.

After seven months, Mary Washington Hospital finally took care of the billing mess from my visit last year for my boo-boo foot. While I am very glad to be done with brouhaha, it is shocking and sad that it took this long to sort out.

While I have not yet met our new UPS man, he is apparently trying to score points with the pups; the package he left for us today had two biscuits sitting on top of it!
pandasheart: I am pony! Hear me roar! (rapidash)
After a day and a half of feeling puny, I was pretty much back to normal today. In case I needed proof that I wasn't feeling up to snuff, I crashed for four hours yesterday after laying down thinking I would probably rest for a little bit. Knowing that I can go overboard quickly, I tried to take it easy today because I simply _must_ be 100% for tomorrow.

After battling two different sewing machines, I was able to sew most of a garb shirt for myself before running out of thread. There would have been plenty of thread had the Singer not decided to eat a bunch of it. There also would have been buttonholes in the garb shirt that I made for [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir except the buttonhole thingie was broken on his Kenmore. Ah well. At least progress was made.

Tomorrow I'll be starting an 8-week hand-building class at the Manassas Clay pottery studio. The instructor, Mikki Hudgins, was highly recommended by Wendy Z., my wheel class instructor. I'm looking forward to learning not only hand-building techniques that will put the slab roller to very good use but to also learn the mechanics of join clay for things like handles and embellishments on wheel-thrown pieces.

There is a good chance that I will be changing my cell phone number since it currently is a toll call to dial my cell from the country home. How dumb is that - thanks Verizon! It's not something I ever noticed when I was single but having to pay to call one of your phones from your home lime is just plain silly.
