The rumor is true...
September 20th, 2005 01:00 pmThe ex & I ACTUALLY went on a vacation! A whole week at the beach! Being us, of course, this vacation was no ordinary vacation... we went away for a week with strangers!
A friend had told me about this group of friends - some of whom knew each other in real life, others through the Net - who got together & rented a beach house together for a week in North Carolina. When I first broached the idea with the ex, he seemed less than enthusiastic... but he came on board & we sent our deposit off.
With my job being so crazy over the summer, I was certainly ready for a break - strangers or no. We drove 7 hours to arrive at Sunset Beach, NC where our beach house & friends-to-be were waiting for us. Any reservations we may have had were dashed as soon as we got to know some of the folks in person.
While I won't bore you with all the details, I will give you some of the highlights...
Having absolutely scrumptious meals prepared by our new friends.
The bestest omelets ever!
Fresh baked bread - for which I indulged myself... carbs be damned!
Being evacuated off the island for two days due to Hurricane Ophelia.
The ex getting attacked by a man-eating jellyfish. Well, bitten on the foot by one.
Treating the ex to a massage on a friend's massage table.
Walking on the beach at night.
An almost-full moon over the water.
Cut-throat Monopoly games.
Matzo ball soup.
More yummy food.
Coming *too* close to coming home with another ferret.
Meeting some fabulous folks & forging friendships that I hope will last a long time.
Finding coral washed up on the beach after the storm.
The ex telling me that we can do it again next year!
I hope the year goes by quickly so we can do it all over again!
PS: One of the top highlights was the ex keeping his word to me & growing a mustache & goatee. It looks AWESOME & he's agreed to keep it until it comes in full.
