Drug-induced mumblings...
November 29th, 2005 09:48 am::: sniffle :::
I am home sick ~ some sort of mildly stuffy head, fever, sore throat thing. I was fine all through the holiday weekend (thank Goddess) but started feeling puny on Sunday evening. Mind you I had taken Monday as a vacation day so that I could enjoy my birthday with a day to myself. haha
What's been happening?
I took the plunge & had my nails done. I actually stopped biting them long enough to have all 10 nails worthy of even stepping into a nail salon. After visiting a few of the local shops, I found one that I wanted to try & they did a fair job of it. I started out with gels with the understanding that I can swap them over to acrylics with fill ins. I wore acrylics for many years without ever having a problem. Plus acrylics are cheaper.
On to more exciting holiday weekend news...
For Thanksgiving we hosted a record 11 folks for turkey day. Everyone enjoyed wild turkey, ham, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, gravy, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, stuffing & no less than 4 or 5 pies for desert ~ with ice cream & whipped cream. The very next day, we had 6 folks to dinner & did it all over again. In addition to all the leftovers from the day before, we had roast beef, shrimp cocktail & baked brie.
<< ACHOO >>
On Saturday we went hunting (shotgun season is here), the ex & his best buddy each got a deer. The ex shot a doe that had been hit by a car; she was a good deer to take out of the woods. Even though she had some injuries, we did not really lose any meat. The only deer I saw all day was a HUGE buck that never walked into range of my Mossberg. His rack was thick & well past his ears... maybe one day!
The ex dragged the slicer out & sliced meat so that I could make some venison jerky. We also tried slicing some meat VERY thin in order to make philly cheese steaks. Hope it works!
Monday ~ yesterday ~ yes, it's true, it was my birthday. I spent half the day sleeping. The ex surprised me by coming home early ... with flowers! They are beautiful & made my feel really special. In the card with the flowers was a $100 gift certificate for a local nail salon so that I can keep up with my nail habit. Part of me feels awfully vain for wanting my nails done, while another part of me tells me that I deserve a little treat. So many parts!
Monday evening, after checking to make sure I was truly up to it, the ex took me to dinner at Carrabba's. After a weird start (our server, when asked how he was doing, replied, "alive" or some such) we had a very nice time. Of course, a new server helped immensely ... but the food was yummy & the company was good ~ hehe. The ex had them sing happy birthday to me in Italian, which just tickled me.
I'm off to get some food & medicine in me...
