Shiny things!
August 20th, 2006 08:20 pmMuch to my surprise, The ex agreed to go to the Gem & Jewelry show with me with no complaining or anything! I made sure that we each had a free pass to get in & thanks to my sister, we were able to gain access into the wholesale area where the prices get even better.
Although we've been to the Dulles Expo Center a few times, I was not ready for the lack of parking & seemingly complete lack of air conditioning inside the venue. Ugh! With too much heat, not enough air, too many people & my low blood sugar kicking in, I was ready to leave the show before visiting every booth.
Even with my all-time-favorite vendor not being at the show, I still managed to splurge on some nice shiny things for myself. It has been AGES since I have bought earrings or anything, so it was a really nice treat.
Coming home with us was 5 or 6 pair of sterling silver earrings ... mostly Celtic knots, a pair of snowflakes for winter & a really neat pair with a couple intertwined that is probably not work safe but the ex liked them a lot. Toe rings! I bought 2 toe rings and some French hooks & pins to make earrings with. Should have gone back for some beads, but the oppressive environment had taken its toll & I was afraid to wear out the ex's patience.
Afterwards, we went to Fratelli's, a nice little Italian place that we discovered when I lived in Centreville. It's probably been 4 years since we have been there & nothing has changed. Since it was about 4 pm when we stopped by, we had the place to ourselves. Pollo Francese is on the menu, which ~ of course ~ I ordered! Their house salad comes with a yummy homemade dressing & is topped with a delightful gardenia.
After eating WAY too much bread (yes, we were weak) & sharing an appetizer & salad, I ended up taking 3/4 of my dinner home & it will make a yummy lunch for tomorrow. We stopped at Costco on the way home to pick up some supplies which turned out to be a good thing so we could walk off some of that heavy dinner!
