Happy Ho Ho

A fun-filled day with family & food & presents. I can't believe that after a marathon like today I have to go to work tomorrow. How unfair!
Our mini marathon:
For breakfast this morning, I made a crustless spinach quiche. The ex says it is my best one yet. We opened our presents ... we kept things kind of low key so we can sock some money towards THE big screen TV. My stocking was filled lots of little Yankee Candle stuff, really cute dragonfly earrings & a very nifty dragonfly that is perched on the tiniest magnet (but it is very powerful). The ex also got me the new EverQuest expansion (which he knows I would not buy for myself) & a Dave Matthews Band CD. The ex's presents included a huge fruitcake (he loves the stuff), 2 pairs of Carhartt jeans (his first ones ever), an ergonomic pillow & some sugar-free treats.
Oh ... he also received a Christmas card from me.
For public record & to help remind myself - the ex did not give his wife a Christmas card in 2007. I told him I reserve the right to tease him about it for as long as I can remember. Knowing my memory, he's not very worried.
Once we were done with our presents, we loaded up the Endeavor & drove to his brother's house so we could do Christmas with our nephews. The Breyer horses were a big hit for the two little boys & I think the oldest boy was happy with his pocket knife. The ex got a cigar store gift card & we got some money towards THE big screen TV. After a few hours, we headed home so we could get ready to have Mom over.
I am so glad I stayed up last night to get some stuff ready ... it was a big help. Our menu?
Goat cheese with honey
Some French semi-soft cheese whose name escapes me now (its flavor is just as unremarkable)
Homemade spinach-artichoke dip
Cornbread crackers & multigrain tortilla chips
The main course was spinach fettuccine alfredo (made by Mom) & chicken saltimbocca (made by me - my first time ever!). Everything was yummy!
For desert we had a sugar-free pumpkin & a very yummy apple pie (low sugar).
Thanks to everyone for a wonderful day ... even my husband who did not give me a Christmas card!
