Good stuff
April 18th, 2008 10:04 pmAfter leaving work a little early yesterday because I was not feeling too well, I had a really nice day today. Yesterday, I was only able to leave the office after a freaking marathon of meeting with sales people. From about 10 am to just after 2 pm I was with salespeople. I never even got to eat lunch! Argh - I hope I am done with that for a little bit!
Anyhow, today found me at a Maximum Impact seminar. This is an amazing leadership forum that my former VP turned me on to a few years back. The concepts I learn when I participate in any Maximum Impact event are always so beneficial to both my personal & work lives are fantastic.
As a bonus, I got to visit with a lot of my old co-workers from AKA, including the VP is who is no longer there. In the "it's a small world" segment, I learned that AKA's new sales rep used to work for a printer that I did a lot of business with when I was with Group Marketing Associates.
After the seminar was over, a small group of us stayed to chat & catch up with each other. In some ways it was as if we have not missed a beat even though it's been at least a year since some of us have seen each other.
As the hour grew later, some had to leave & our group became just 3 - my old VP, my best buddy at AKA & me. Somehow the conversation turned to a gay friend that the buddy's daughter has & whether or not gay people can be Christians. Please keep in mind that both of these ladies are people that I admire & adore. Both are very involved in their church & the buddy has done some time as a pastor. They also know that I follow a much different path.
Shocked does not quite explain what I felt when I heard things like..
"Only you & God can decide if you can be a Christian." (e.g I don't know, or my answer would be no.)
&
"Being gay is like me being overweight. I know its wrong, but I still do it. I know God loves me anyway."
Does this mean only skinny gay people get to be Christians?
It is a shame that religion has created such issues for their followers to ponder.
In other but in a sort-of-freaky-related-way, news, I dropped my cell phone in the toilet. Fortunately while said toilet was clean. It's sort of working & hopefully a good airing out will return it to it's previous working state. Brian's been after me to get a new one, perhaps this was a sign he is right.
