Tyson Travels
July 19th, 2008 05:52 pmIt all started with a letter that I received from Mitsubishi informing me of a safety recall for my Endeavor. The note told me that the recall would be handled swiftly by my dealer. Trouble is, I don't have a dealer. The dealer that I bought the SUV from is 2 hours away & the nearby dealer that I was using ceased to be a Mitsu dealer over 2 years ago. As did the next closest franchise.
After a search on the Mitsu website, I learned that while I had few choices (Woodbridge, Charlottesville, Tysons) the dealer Tysons caught my eye because I really miss Tysons & several of my favorite places to shop & eat. As it turns out the dealer had a spot for me right away & on a Saturday no less. (Stohlman Mitsubishi for those curious.)*
With the Endeavor appointment made, I invited Mom to come along with me for the day. The plan was to hit The Container Store, Shamshiry (Persian food!) & Trader Joe's in addition to the needed work on my SUV.
The recall work was done sooner than than the estimated 1.5 hours & after a reminder that the Endeavor is overdue for it's 60,000 mile service, we headed across the to our first shopping stop. We managed to keep our trip to The Container Store rather inexpensive, lots of nice things to ooh & ahh over, but very little that we HAD to buy.
Next was lunch at Shamshiry. Oh! How I have missed this place! We enjoyed goat cheese for an appetizer, then had barq for lunch. This is a filet mignon kebab served over a HUGE mound of fluffy white rice. The filet is lightly marinated and cooked over open flame until perfect. The rice is delicate & served so hot that you can cook a raw egg into it ... which we did.
Last stop before we came home was Trader Joe's, another place that I dearly miss. When I worked in Vienna, it was easy to nip over during my lunch hour & purchase some goodies. After piling my cart full with wonderful frozen vegetable selections, rice milk, low salt nuts, LAMBRIC, some mega-dark beer for Brian, dark chocolate treats, & more, I was delighted to learn that I had *only* spent about $160 (thought I had gone over $200).
What a nice day with some nice treats; glad my Mom could share them with me.
*As an odd aside, the service manager said he had seen my license plate before.
