Back at it!
October 7th, 2008 06:45 pmOnce again, I rushed home so I could hit the woods with the crossbow. Brian needed to work on his motorcycle, so once again, I was going solo. This time, I decided to set up close to where I saw the deer yesterday which is also much closer to the house. It was hard to pick a spot because this early in the season there is still a lot of foliage blocking the view.
Just after 6 pm, I saw two deer coming my way. They angled differently than I had anticipated, staying out of crossbow range. As they got closer, the deer in front caught a glimpse of me & starting snorting & stamping. He must have kept it up for 3-4 minutes (giving me a nice shot for the muzzleloader, but alas - wrong season). Finally he tired of this & bounded off, only to come back & do it again. Then he proceed to the driveway & hung out a bit, before coming in closer to get another look at me. He stamped & snorted again before taking off for good.
After the deer were gone, I went & looked at the direction they had come & where they were headed so that I would know where to set up next time. I also checked out the spot in the driveway where he had stood stamping. They sure can put a hole in the ground with those hooves!
