A HUGE thanks to Mom who came over to help us deal with the doe in the fridge. She was already there with a deer leg on the cutting board by the time I pulled in on the Wing. When I mentioned to her that I felt guilty about trying to hunt a bit while she was working, she about pushed me out the door & told me to bring home another deer!
Just as I was heading out to the woods, Brian pulled in with our new furniture in his trailer. It was tempting to take a peek at it, but I was good & kept on my mission of getting in the woods. Well, OK, I did look at the top of the hutch that was sticking out & noticed the stain job is not a very good one & one of the wood seams seems to be a tad gappy.
This time I walked down to the small pond to set up, now that I know better how to position myself there. There is a nice area for me to tuck into with a fair amount of cover. Unfortunately, the cover was not needed, as no deer came through! The highlight of my evening hunt was a bird who came in to land either on my bow or the branch above it. When it realized something was not quite right about the situation, it hovered a good while, trying to get a better look at me. I've never seen a larger bird hover like that before, usually only hummingbirds do it. I could hear its wings beating & watched its tail maneuver for balance. Neat stuff.
By the time I walked back to the house, Brian & Mom had pretty much finished up with the deer. How is that for timing? hehe They had also cooked up some fresh steaks from the doe. I made some soybeans to enjoy with it & toasted the rest of the beer bread I had made on Sunday.
After we ate, Brian pulled the trailer full of furniture into the garage for safe keeping overnight. While I really wanted to bring some of it inside, I knew we were both too tired to mess with it. Instead, we chose to take a look at a few pieces the best we could. We started with a chair since I was holding my breath about the fabric because we had bought it sight unseen. What a relief it was to uncover the seat & see a really nice pattern with much better coloration than the photos I had seen. Another huge plus is that I also like the texture of the fabric.
Now that the big drama was over, we started to look at the rest of the chair (still in pieces) & discovered a huge chuck of wood MISSING from the chair where it had been screwed & the screw popped the wood. UGH! Guess who I will be calling first thing in the morning.
Brian really wanted to check out the table a bit, so we opened the box as much as could. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the table top had no sign of distressing that some of the pieces in the set we looked at in the store had. What I did see though was sloppy staining along the side of the table. Guess I will have a laundry list for Ashley when I call them tomorrow!
Brian also noted that the stain on the two hutch pieces doesn't seem to match, but we will really have to take them out to know for sure. We'll have to go over every piece with a fine tooth comb.
Stay tuned!
