... The ex & I went to the gun show on Valentine's Day.

... we also had a nice lunch at a local (to the gun show) BBQ place.

... we had a very enjoyable dinner at Fratelli's, an Italian place that we enjoy in Chantilly.

... we even went shopping at Trader Joe's after dinner.

... that I am the proud owner of a Kimber 84M Montana .260 caliber rifle.

While I *had* planned to look hard at hunting rifles at the gun show, I had not intended on buying one. Typically there are a lot of guns at these things but not many that I want to come home with.

We discovered the Kimber early on & since I have handled them in the past, already knew that I really like them. With just a bit of research, I had narrowed my brand choices down to Browning, Kimber & Ruger for a hunting rifle. Sadly most of Ruger's offerings are really heavy & since I have to carry the darned thing around all day, this becomes an issue.

Just before lunch, we found a Browning Medallion 7mmx08 that was brand new in the box. Another sweet gun for a nice deal. We also looked over what CZ had to offer & while I like their full stock option, the combination of military round & high (IMHO) price tag turned me off.

Over BBQ-yummyness we debated on the merits of the Kimber (a used gun for $895 - down from the show price tag of $995; this gun sells new for about $1,200) & the brand new Browning with a price tag of $590. A very tough choice.

After lunch, we went back to the show to cruise the second half of the show floor. There was nothing that even came close to either the Kimber or the Browning, so at least I had only 2 guns to choose from. LOL

In the end, the overall quality & feel of the Kimber won me over, even though it is gently used & considerably more of an investment than the Browning. The vendor came down to $875 & filled me in on the gun's history (one owner, one season).

Since I slept in this morning, the ex already had a Leopold scope mounted on the Kimber by the time I was up & about. I can't wait to shoot it.

Besides a lot of booths to look at while at the show, the NRA museum had a display there with 4 of Annie Oakley's guns. When I was a child, our family doctor always called me Annie Oakley, so it was a real treat to see these historic guns up close.
