What a perfect afternoon to be in the woods!
Warm temperature, sunshine, no wind. Wait a minute ... there were no deer either.
Seriously! I did not see any deer at all, but there were a LOT of squirrels (that seem a bit jacked up on Mountain Dew), a noisy woodpecker (not sure what kind) that hung out early on and the very vocal Pileated Woodpecker made a return visit for a short time. There were also a pair of Carolina Wrens that were scurrying about close to the tree stand. What a pleasure to watch! They played in the water and poked under leaves. They are very pretty with a vibrant reddish brown topside and a distinct white facial stripe.
Young Mr. Rat (who still needs a name) is now taking the eggbeater scraps from my hand with glee. He seems to be doing well. I gave him part of a sock to use for a nest. We'll see if he likes it. Tucker is still overly interested in him, I hope he learns to like his little rat brother (and not for a snack).
Found 3 jobs in NoVa to apply for. Not sure that I will get a call on any of them. Furthest one away is in Tysons. Ugh - what a commute that would be.
Tattoo day tomorrow - I am so excited!
