Busy day was busy!
May 9th, 2011 09:48 pmFirst a little bit of catch up ...
Saturday the 7th - Travel day to country home. First time
daecabhir and I did the "caravan" thing for a road trip. He led and I followed and things went ever so smoothly. It's funny how little things like checking to see if your speed is sufficient, signaling, and letting the tail vehicle block lanes all make for an enjoyable road trip when taking two or more vehicles.
dreamtigress and I were treated to lots of giggles when
daecabhir was making all sorts of interesting arm gestures out his window.
Once we hit F'burg, we struck out at Dickinson's (the place where we had intended to buy a blower and string trimmer) since they were closed. We did, however, manage to buy our very own bed finally; a queen-sized latex mattress by Latex Bliss. We also bought two latex pillows to go with it since they are awesome; it feels as though your head is floating. Our new "just right" mattress should be delivered in 7-10 days.
After unloading both vehicles, we headed for Culpeper to meet Mom and Wilma for dinner at Thai Culpeper. As always, the food was fabulous and we had a very nice time. Gifts were exchanged - three birthdays in all, plus Mother's Day!
Sunday the 8th - After a yummy pancake breakfast,
dreamtigress,
daecabhir and I headed to the VA ren faire which is held at the Lake Anna Winery. It is a small faire but quite delightful. We packed some food and drink and, of course, were well-attired. I got to wear three of my new skirts thanks to my spiffy new skirt-holder thingies (made by
dreamtigress) and
daecabhir looked ever so dashing in his new wrap pants, green doublet and that ever-so-sexy leather cavalier hat. Of course, I may be a bit biased since I find him handsome no matter what he is wearing.
daecabhir bought me a pair of purple chain mail earrings and we picked out two adorable miniature pottery mugs (perfect for shots or espresso). We nommed on very yummy (and addicting) kettle corn during the pub sing before heading out. Once we exchanged
dreamtigress for our puppies,
daecabhir and I headed for country home. It's good to have the dogs back!
Today - This is the very last "pack up Monday" that
daecabhir and I have to go through. Once he got on the road, I set about getting some things done. Got the Yard Bug running again (well, it never stopped running, but the deck was not working properly) and managed to mow most of the yard before picking up a roofing nail in one of the front tires.
Since we had no luck starting the brand new pressure washer from Harbor Freight, I decided to make a ninja run on F'burg. After not getting a very good feeling about swapping out pressure washers, I opted for a refund instead. They took it back without question which makes me think I am not the first one to return a cranky pressure washer. Back to doing a bit of research for a new one.
daecabhir and I are now the proud owners of an Echo back-pack blower and an Echo string trimmer. Back-pack blowers are the best yard work idea since putting motors on lawnmowers. Once I got back home, I popped the cherries on both machines - the driveway looks all spiffy now and around the house does as well.
Other than that I have puttered about ... unpacked three boxes of city home food stuffs, paid bills, got a quote on tires for the Endeavor ($1000!), made sun tea, and worked on cleaning up from the weekend's flurry of activity.
On a funny note, when I was buying the Echo equipment, the older gentleman who helped me with my purchases politely noted that I apparently been attacked by a vampire after glimpsing the hickey that I had on my neck. I must have turned eighteen shades of red. He asked what the vampire's name was and I told him that it was Gregory. He remarked back, "Gregory sure is a funny name for a vampire!" And just in case that was not enough teasing for one day, someone in Harbor freight commented on my neck as well but this time a pretty female manager came to my rescue with the quip, "As long as it was fun, what does it matter?" Of course, it was then I noticed that she had a hickey on her neck as well!
