Monday catch-up post
October 3rd, 2011 09:12 pmWhile the calendar says October, Mother Nature decided to take us directly into late November over the weekend with temperatures that dipped into the 40's at night and highs during the day in the mid-50's! Add to that dreary, cloud-filled skies and bouts of rain. Crazy making stuff, indeed.
Even with three skirts over leggings and assorted cloaks, hand warmers, copious amounts of hot tea, it was a real struggle to stay warm at faire. Even
daecabhir - who is never cold - caved and bought another long-sleeved shirt to wear. (It's from Green Tree Weaving and is simply stunning, by the way.)
Fortunately sales were good for
dreamtigress on Saturday and of course, even with the nasty weather, we still managed to have a fun time at MDRF. We had yummy food from Mom and my vegetarian Scotch egg experiment was met with many compliments.
daecabhir presented me with a lovely red rose - which is certainly a great way to cheer up a dreary day any time. We had two pairs of chain mail earrings made for me - one in red and orange with the other in green and blue.
After MUCH discussion about colors and options, I placed the order for my shoes with Peter Jelen.
daecabhir and I are both in need of short shoes for garb and kilt-wearing and had been round to the various vendors at faire without much luck. Then we met with Peter and got pretty jazzed by both the man and his workmanship. (
daecabhir still needs to decide on his design, then he'll be ordering a pair as well.)
The big downer of the weekend came with Saturday evening's dinner at a wretched place called The Irish Channel in Gambrills, MD. Service was slow in an uncrowded restaurant which might be overlooked with fabulous food but that was not the case. One of the meals was delivered to the table with moldy cheese. Yes, you right that correctly. Moldy cheese! The staff did not seem overly surprised at this issue which is alarming in and of itself. Two of our party (including yours truly) ordered the corned beef sandwich which was supposed to be served hot and with thousand island dressing . The three slices of corned beef were barely lukewarm and instead of dressing, the sandwiches were served with lettuce and tomato. (All my friends from the northeast have just fainted, I am certain.) when the requested dressing finally arrived to the table, it was horrible. Long story short, I called in a complaint to Anne Arundel County and a food safety inspector will be paying a visit to this 'dining' establishment shortly.
With the weather still cold and yucky on Sunday evening, we headed out a bit early and ended up at the Double T for a quick dinner. Apologies to the gang, but we were able to eat dinner and get on the road before ya'll arrived. Of course, Sunday at the Double T means LEMON CHICKEN SOUP! It's so yummy!
