Went hunting this evening in our yard ... there's this nice little spot that I figured out with decent cover that allows me to see the drain field and have a clear shot if I am lucky.
Just about the time that I was thinking of packing it in for the night, I saw a deer coming my way, then I saw another deer behind the first one - both does. Without being detected, I was able to get the sight on the lead doe and just waited for her to come closer and stop giving me a broadside shot. She did and I took it. I saw my crossbow bolt in her as she turned and ran.
Sadly after looking for an hour and a half, I've yet to come across her.The only thing I can think of is that the bolt hit her shoulder blade. I'll resume searching for her in the morning.
::: sigh :::
On the upside, I _finally_ met my next door neighbors since I drove over to their place to ask for permission to search for the doe on their property. They seem very nice and one of their two boys and then the husband also helped me canvas the woods in search of the doe.
