So my left foot that has been giving me trouble since the summer had finally gotten to the point of truly getting my attention when it started to go numb a few days ago. A bit alarming, indeed. In researching healthcare options for those without it in the Commonwealth, I came across a clinic in Fredericksburg that would actually work with my current situation.
My appointment this morning was one of mixed emotions. My treatment by the receptionist was deplorable. She was unnecessarily rude and nasty and had I not been in such pain, I think I would have throttled her. After enduring her wrath and being made to wait needlessly, I was finally able to see a doctor. The doctor, who was very nice, was also very apologetic because she had very limited means by which to diagnose and treat me. Her conclusion was that I very well could have a broken bone in my foot (my suspicion) and that I needed x-rays ASAP. She also suggested that I start using crutches. After getting information about my options for x-rays and getting a lesson in walking on crutches (it's _much_ harder than it looks), I was on my way.
After some debate,
daecabhir and I decided that I should head to the ER at Mary Washington. Long story, after about three hours or so, xrays had been taken, I had been fitted with a funky walking shoe, given a script for painkillers and sent on my way. No broken bones were found, but apparently I have a large bone spur on my heel that may or may not be causing the trouble. They recommended that I follow up with a podiatrist ASAP.
Wheeeeeeee!
