Yeah, I'm still here
December 5th, 2011 09:44 pmLife has been a bit crazy for the past week or so and I've not had much motivation to post. (Well, okay, I did sit down once to bang away an update, but LJ was busy being hacked, so no dice.)
The holiday weekend was wonderful and we ended up celebrating my birthday for five days. Mom made Aunt Hannah's cheesecake for my birthday (nom nom nom), I got lots of wonderful presents but most importantly I was surrounded by love. Speaking of wonderful presents, I am sitting here typing on my new super-duper back-lit keyboard and looking at my new sexy monitor - both gifts from my most amazing mate.
Sadly the highs of the weekend evaporated when I learned on Wednesday that my very dear friend, Don, lost his battle with cancer ... on my birthday. His daughter told me that he died peacefully and I am grateful for that as well as his fight being a short one. His passing leaves a void for me that is hard to explain. Don and I were soul mates of a sort and it's hard to believe that he is gone.
Life goes on for the rest of us though and thanks to a very understanding
daecabhir things are mostly back to normal.
This weekend found us very busy and very productive. On Saturday, we went shopping for a bed (the furniture, not the mattress) and learned that what we are looking for will be hard to find. Go figure. We held hands and smiled our way through several shops (and even got told 'not to have too much fun' at one place). At
daecabhir's most excellent suggestion, we toasted Don over pizza (I cried) ... showing me once again (like I would forget) that I have the best partner on the planet.
Sunday found us preparing a spot so that we can buy some firewood, playing with the dogs (well,
daecabhir threw the toys and I watched) and we did lots of holiday-type stuff - including putting up our tree together for the first time.
There's a lot going on behind the scenes at the country home and sooner or later, you'll get to hear about it.
