Covered in bees
June 5th, 2012 10:15 pmTomorrow I'll be setting up to vend my first show - the farmer's market in Culpeper. It's very small and only runs for four hours but in typical me fashion, I am a little hyped up. My two big goals are that the gazebo tent does not blow over and no pottery is broken accidentally. Any else that happens should be gravy. I don't expect big sales from vending the market but it will give me a chance to hone my 'real' show set up.
Today was spent mostly in Fredericksburg doing a few errands and taking care of some mechanical needs for the Prius. Besides the other changes that JC Penney has under gone this year, it seems as though the sales people got a kick in the arse. When I returned an item today because it started falling apart after being washed twice, the guy behind the counter was very helpful and the return was made with no fuss. Sadly, my experience at Belk's was not as nice; their dressing rooms were deplorably filthy and there was no help to be had at the Clinique counter (fortunately the item I wanted has become self-serve merchandise). Maybe it's funny that I actually wanted someone to wait on me while for my purchase, but I reckon paying that much for facial moisturizer has me sort of expecting it. (FWIW, Clinique has strict across-the-board pricing, so service is the only reason to buy the products at X store over Y store.)
An unexpected find in Home Goods today was dried shallot - something that I've never come across before. I love the flavor shallots give to recipes and since there was only one bottle in sight, it came home with me. Tonight's dinner was a simple stock-wine-butter sauce made even better with - you guessed it - shallots.
Actually there were two fun finds at Home Goods ... seems they carry a few of the Pain is Good sauces and salsas. Sadly though, not the mustard-based one that is pretty much a staple of
daecabhir's diet.
We've been truly blessed with some wonderful weather this week. Right now we have the windows open and the house fan running. I guess a cool first week of June is the payback for having to run the AC back in April!
