A week of family
December 26th, 2012 12:02 pmThe holidays are hectic - there is no getting around that - but this holiday season, our Christmas was spread out over many days so we got to enjoy it longer.
On Saturday, the 22nd,
dreamtigress, August, and
1painter42 came over to start things off early. The plan was to install the back-splash in the studio and then spend the evening playing games, noshing on yummy foods, and enjoying adult beverages. Well, pottery studios are certainly not exempt from the "it should be easy, it's never easy" rule and we didn't finish up until much later than expected. We did, however, obtain the goal of games, foods, and drinks. Dinner was roasted pork loin, mashed butternut squash, and broccoli cheese casserole. Simple but quite delicious.
On Sunday morning, we were treated to a delightful brunch, compliments of
1painter42 - Eggs Jack Benny. After cleaning up and getting our collective acts together,
njzoomom and Wilma showed up. After snacking a bit, we headed to the living room for presents. There were a lot of presents! Not surprising, knitting and pottery figured pretty big into my gifts - a new loom, yarn, pottery stamps, and much more. Sexy new socks, several special ornaments for the tree, delicious teas, and a shopping spree to Michaels were also under the tree for me. The lasagna was a hit - I made it with vodka sauce for the first time.
Monday, after having another yummy breakfast, we saw
1painter42 off and then set about with pie baking and more gift wrapping in preparation of spending Xmas day with
daecabhir's family. The plan was to install our new sink kitchen sink faucet once we got cleaned up. That would have happened except for the fact that
daecabhir discovered the source of the intermittent leak under the sink - the cold-water compression valve. This is not really a simple fix for a few reasons, so it looks like there will be a plumber involved in the near future. Remember that rule about 'it should be easy, it's never easy' - yup, it got us again. My honey and I saved our stockings for Christmas eve and the best surprise was discovering that we had both bought the same card for each other. Truly adorkable.
Christmas morning, after a quiet brunch, we hit the road for Maryland. A loud but fun day was spent with
daecabhir's clan. It's always a joy to see the kids open their presents and - of course - get to visit with the adults too.
Today finds my Panda and I spending a quiet day at home - simply enjoying each other's company.
