The beauty after the mess
January 26th, 2013 11:44 pmAfter filling the house with smoke yesterday, we got to open the kiln this morning and see what all that bother actually produced. While a few pieces (mostly on the top shelf) had a bit of glaze-running down to the shelf, there are some pretty pieces. The chambray glaze from Clayworks is shaping up to get a place in my line-up. Iron lustre, while not really my taste for a stand-alone glaze, makes an excellent accent glaze. The combination of the two created several pieces that look like Tessum Stoneware cone 10 reduction glazes so there was quite a happy dance in the studio. To top it all off, both glazes seem to play nice with Ellen's Blue. Both of my little goblets survived, there's a few decent mugs, the left-handed shaving bowl looks okay, there are a few really neat looking spoon rests, and a small batter bowl came out so neat that it may not go on the sale table.
daecabhir and I did a bit of running around today - two stops to look at tile for the master bathroom, Sears to scope out tool box options, McKay's used book store, Barnes & Noble, and we managed to hit a combination lunch spot (Five Guys next to Subway - hamburger for me and veggie sub for him) as well as a nice Pho place in Gainesville for dinner.
