When I was a kid, summer lasted forever or at least it seemed that way. We only had about two and a half months off from school but it went by slowly. Those days are gone and time is flying by so fast that I can hardly keep track of things anymore.
A little of what has been going on here ...
VARF - We're down to one weekend left of the VA ren faire. Sales have not been what I expected and I had tried to set some very realistic goals for the business. From talking to other vendors, I know it's not just me, the patrons aren't buying much of anything. With that said, I have covered my costs and am in the profit zone; it's just not much profit. Faire has been pretty fun, even though it wears us out a bit. There have been lots of wonderful comments on my work and many friends have come to visit us in the booth. Weather has been a little bit of everything in the shire ... I wore my shawl and ruana the first two weekends, the third weekend was wonderful weather, and this past weekend was in the 90's. Threat of rain kept folks away on the first two weekends and we had a record breaking crowd on weekend number three. Traffic was light this past weekend.
The house - Lately the water has seemed a bit on the rusty side and I thought the taste had changed. Turns out both of those things were real. On Saturday, May 24th, we woke up to discover that we had no water. Seems the well pump was dead - four days without water and a considerable check later, we were back on tap. njzoomom for letting us come over to take showers.
A few weeks ago, the dishwasher smoked when I turned it on. We've been watching it closely ever since but made the decision to replace it. The shiny new dishwasher will be delivered this Friday.
Just in case replacing the well pump and dishwasher were not enough, our chimney guy came out last week as well to clean the chimney and repair the chimney crown. We also ended up replacing the chimney cap to boot.
