pandasheart: Dragonfly (dragonfly)
This weekend we successfully rented the log splitter from the Lake of the Woods True Value. Dan gave us a very sweet deal (and didn't fuss when we were an hour late returning it). Yup, this means what you think it means, [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir and I spent some 'quality time' splitting wood. At least two cords of it me thinks; we won't know for sure until we get it racked.

We spent all Saturday afternoon working on the wood that was felled by the second garage. The 22-ton splitter made really quick work of the logs, but there was still a lot of manual labor. [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir worked non-stop to keep me in wood to split and did all of the heavy wrestling. Sunday morning found us back at it - it took about three hours to finish up, including the big chunks from a tree that we had cut down last year.

We're both achy and the ibuprofen and icy-hot have been applied liberally. After returning the splitter, we headed to Fredericksburg to pick up lumber (more wood!) so that we can build some firewood racks. Storing the wood under the deck proved not to be a very good option. Before we went shopping though, a yummy late-lunch at Thai Town 56 was enjoyed. [livejournal.com profile] daecabhir got his ghost chili pepper tofu (shudder) and I had my usual, pad see ew.

We've decided to move forward with another home improvement project ... this time it's knocking a wall instead of building one. We've talked about putting a 'window' in the wall that separates the living room and dining room for a while now. During a conversation with a contractor, I mentioned that in an ideal world, I would probably just want the entire wall removed. We discussed the possibilities and he said that it was possible, so after much debate, that is what we are going to do. Pahse two of this particular project is to have the living room, dining room, kitchen, hallway and both bathrooms painted. Most of the paint in these rooms is the same as when the house was purchased in 2002 so we think it's overdue.
