Catching up
June 13th, 2005 11:11 amThe treadmill is here! The treadmill is here! My sexy, new Smooth treadmill arrived Friday evening via a baby tractor trailer truck. The poor driver had his hands full with getting to us, but got the job done. (And he was a bit of eye candy too!) Oh... did I really type that? LOL (It's OK - I told Brian!)
Saturday: Up early to beat the heat. We had to rearrange our office to accommodate the treadmill & I think the result looks much better. Since a few pieces of furniture had to move, I took advantage of the situation to do some cleaning; vacuuming the baseboards, rubbing everything down with Pledge, etc. After much debating over the best method, we brought the treadmill into the house. (No easy feat as the treadmill is heavy & unwiedly.) Brian assembled the treadmill & we moved it into place. It runs well & is very quiet. I walked a whopping 7 minutes right away, but had to stop to fix breakfast for us.
For the better part of the day, Brian worked outside & I worked inside. I have been determined to make my desk a usable workspace for quite some time now & with its new, more prominent position in the office, I made it happen. Sorting through files, labeling folders, filing & throwing papers away filled my day. Brian came in from outside sweaty & exhausted & promptly took a nap. Once he woke up, we both took showers & headed for Culpeper. After a trip to Lowes (yippee ~ I found the chain needed to hang a piece of stained glass art from my sis) we went in search of dinner. We called my Mom & asked her to meet us at Ruby Tuesdays. While waiting for her to arrive, we hit the small JC Penney's where I found a fun blouse for work.
We had a very enjoyable dinner with Mom (we all ended up ordering hamburgers of some sort - which is funny because Brian & I had huge deer burgers for lunch). After we said our goodbyes to Mom, we headed over to the BIG Wal-Mart. I am not a huge Wal-mart fan, mind you, but there is some stuff that you just can't seem to get anywhere else. Plus they have some food stuffs that are either hard to find or better priced or both. The checkout lines were really long, but I commented to Brian that by the time we would be done with our shopping, it would be settled down. WRONG! After about 2 hours of shopping, the lines were the same. We were both tired & getting cranky - LOL - that makes us sound like 4 year olds... not 40 year olds!
Sunday: After getting to bed so late I had a hard time waking up. Finally, I convinced myself to get up & set about cleaning my motorcycle so it would not be an embarrassment. Today is "Biker Sunday" at the church that many of my co-workers (including the VP) attend. That's right. We're going to church to get the Wing blessed. Yup - you read that right. LOL This is the same church that Alan went to, so at least it is not a completely new thing. One thing that I have learned recently is how to celebrate someone else's faith. The spirituality that is shown here is truly beautiful at times ~ even if I do not believe what they do.
Brian followed me in the truck as I don't feel up carrying him as a passenger anymore. There were close to 300 bikes present & a local radio station in addition to all the *normal* folks who go to church. Since the church was packed, a co-worker suggested that Brian & I might want to hang out in the foyer where they broadcast the service on large flat panel TVs We took this advice & settled down on a very comfy couch. This church is not your typical venue which is another reason it has been easy for me accept it. To give a little insight... the pastor rode in on a baby chopper & the service included electric guitars!
After things wrapped up, we hung out for a bit, letting my friend's kids sit on the Wing. Brian & I seemed to be bordering on getting crabby. Since we could not agree on seeing the new Star Wars movie (YUCK!) we decided to go our separate ways. I really needed a haircut & was in the mood to do some shopping. I rode out towards town in search of food & a haircut, ending up at the mall. After grabbing a quick bite at Costco, I started my hunt. I have visited 2 of the hair places in the mall already & while both are OK - they are just OK. After a bit of hemming & hawing, I chose Master Cuts.
Lea took me in & I told her I needed help; my hair was shapeless & dull & BORING. We talked for a bit & somehow I agreed to highlights. While I have colored my hair for YEARS, I have never done the highlight thing. Watching Lea work hard to find the right color let me know that I had made the right choice. In a flash she was back & I was quickly transformed into something that looked like a aluminum hedgehog. Once I was back int he chair, Lea told me that my hair is short enough & that she was going to razor it to reduce the weight that makes it limp. When she was all done & I took my first peek & went wild - it looks awesome!
Side bar: While sitting under the heat, I read an article about relationship/love stuff. One hint I got was to have each partner write down 5 things that the other does that makes them feel loved. Many couples do not keep updating that sort of stuff. Something that made you feel loved 5 years ago, may not do so now. Plus we often are clueless about what truly makes your partner feel loved. Or unloved.
Feeling perky with my new do, I head out for JC Penney to see if I can score a few deals on clothes. After trying on at least 2 dozen blouses, I walk out to the bike with 3 purchases. Riding home, I stopped for gas & a drink. I have fallen in love... WaWa makes a diet green tea with honey & ginseng & it is to die for. It was so yummy, I drank mine while waiting in line & bought another one to take home.
Finally I get home where it turns out Brian just went straight home where napped & played EQ. He was kinda worried by the time I finally got home. He takes this advantage to harp that I need a cell phone. I tell him, yes, I will get one when we can afford it.
Oh... his reaction to the new hairdo? "Oh, you got your hair whacked out." Yes, that's what he said. Really. I told him out of all the list of acceptable things that a man can say to a woman that has just had her done, "Oh, you got your hair whacked out" is not on the list. He did apologize. Twice in fact.
Is there any sort of finishing school for men?
