(Almost) Mid-Week Musings
February 28th, 2006 11:34 amTuesday. Tuesday at 11:30 am. Tuesday at 11:30 am & I am sitting in front of my own computer in my own house & not at work.
WOOHOO!
The fleeting moment where I actually thought I would just save the 2 vacation days the VP had given me for some later date seems like a little dark cloud blown away by a nice, strong, cleansing wind. What was I thinking? For the last 2 months, I have stayed up to 2 am & slept until whenever I wanted! Even after 4 days, I am not able to fall asleep at a reasonable time. I am hoping tomorrow morning will find me bright-eyed & bushy-tailed & not the other way around!
What is new?
New is the fact that we don't have our flooring completed as we had planned. Having lost the weekend before due to late-sleeping-me & late-going-to-town-the-ex on top of incomplete information from Lowe's, we settled down to tackle flooring with mucho gusto this past Saturday. The fly in the ointment came from the flooring itself. Instead of the grout lines lining up nicely as they do in all the pictures of tile-laminate flooring, our flooring was a 1/2" off in some places by the 3rd row. To add insult to injury, a few boards chipped as we were putting them into place.
NOT GOOD!
After a lengthy call to Lowe's, the ex was assured that they would take the flooring back even though it was purchased in June of '05. Sunday morning found us loading the offending laminate into the truck & trekking to the Lowe's in Stafford for the return. To their credit, we were given a refund of the full amount on the Lowe's card. Of course, it was too much to ask that they had a substitute flooring IN STOCK but after much soul searching & hemming & hawing by one Type A person we all know, a new pattern was selected & ordered. The new stuff - not on clearance as its predecessor - will cost about twice the price. I hope it looks more than twice as nice!
What else is new?
Blue. My nails. My nails are blue. A first time for me, but it is a color that the ex picked out & I must admit my nails look way cooler than I thought they would. I'm not sure if the manicurist was just blowing smoke up my wazzoo or not, but she seemed genuinely jazzed over the color after she put it on. The claws are really getting long - finally to the claw stage! Of course, this means my poor typing is even worse because of them!
Anything else new?
Squeaking rat babies. My mother brought the mother rat & her little ones for a visit on Saturday. Their eyes had just opened & they are awfully cute at this stage. We decided that she would leave them here for a few days so that we could enjoy them; the ex has not ever really been around anything like this before. I get a big kick out of watching him play with them; at one point, he had several babies sleeping in his pocket! It really is a trip to watch them, just over the past few days they have learned to eat on their own & last night they discovered the water bottle.
Mom was going to pick the "brood" up today, but when the ex found out, he said, "NO!" A whole generation of rat babies will grow up thinking that a tall hairy human is a their playmate. Somehow I think our in-house rat population will be growing once the babies are weaned.
