I made it!

Monday found me on the Appalachian Trail (see the 6/12 post).

Tuesday brought the resignation of my head programmer, Dan. With the management restructuring of the company, Dan was not only my head programmer but also the supervisor of DP. I also happened to like Dan; he was a good guy. Unfortunately, he went ballistic on the HR lady as well as the VP. Tuesday evening found me in a meeting where the decision was made to cut Dan loose despite the 2-week notice he had given.

Tuesday also brought the curious news that the Hazard County Girls (a HEAVY metal band belonging to the president's younger sister) would be giving a show ... right here at work. Since I happened to be in the VP's office when the call came, I was incorporated into the planning of said rock & roll show.

Between the flurry of meetings about the departing programmer & those about the best place on the property to host a concert to playing art director for the announcement posters I was a really busy lady. Oh yeah, I also had to do my "day job". LOL

Wednesday came with the trepidation of not knowing what sort of emotional state my departing employee would be in as well as how the news of management's decision would be taken. Said programmer was downright chipper & was a model employee. I think having turned over his resignation & the emotional turmoil of the previous day had lifted some sort of weight from him. Thankfully the HR lady stayed late to help with the dismissal & I was left to walk him out & clean up his desk. After working nearly 13 hours, I was so glad to get home!

Thursday was concert day! About mid-day two guys came to set up the speakers & amps & some other stuff I knew nothing about. While they were not thrilled with the spot we had selected, they quickly understood that there are limited resources for a suitable stage at a print/mail facility. Once all the sound stuff was set up, yours truly got to perform the sound checks. I'm a Sound Check Girl!

My afternoon was spent running back & forth from DP to my office to our rock & roll stage (formerly known as the smoking area) in a flurry of activity in a desperate attempt to make up for the time that I lost earlier in the week.

The show went off fairly well. Despite my sound checks, we couldn't hear much of the singer's voice, but the music was loud with a great beat. Reviews of the Hazard County Girls calls their sound "Black Sabbath meets Nirvana" & I would agree. I ended up purchasing both of the HCG CD's & the girls signed both of them for me. The ex came with dinner that we munched on during the hour-long show.

Friday finds me decompressing ~ a much needed event. The ex asked if I was leaving the office at 2 pm in order to get some R&R. While that's not probable, I am going to do my darnedest to get out of here right at 4 o'clock for a change!
