Is STILL Wednesday?
April 11th, 2007 07:44 pmIt's been Wednesday for a really long time for me!
Last night somewhere around 9 pm the second momma dog delivered her first puppy, but sadly, it was dead by the time I found it. I think it was probably born dead, but not knowing makes me nuts. She was not alone for all that long, but I still wish I had been there, just in case there was something I could have done to save the puppy. When I tried to take the dead puppy away from her, she went bonkers, so I ended up leaving the dead puppy with her. At one point, she tucked it under head & when she started to breath hard, it looked as though she was crying over it.
The second pup was born around 10:40 pm, a lemon male. Again the bitch ninja-delivered on me! This little guy was breathing a bit raspy, but some rigorous rubbing helped get him going a bit better. With her attention on a live puppy, I was able to sneak the dead puppy out of the whelping box.
Some where in here the bitch started biting the cardboard box we have in her in to help in & re-arranging her "nest", effectively spewing straw everywhere. After fixing up a chair in her pen, I sat with her, hoping she would have a normal delivery & stuff. A whelping wench, I guess you might say.
Around midnight, I realized that I really needed some sleep. With the first puppy nursing, I went to bed, only to wake up in an hour. Still no more puppies; puppy #2 nursing happily. Back to bed at 1-something & awake again at 2:13 am. A third puppy is nuzzling a teat. The bitch ninja'd me AGAIN! Puppy number 3 is a male tri-color with really nice markings. Since the puppy is clean, breathing well & has a full belly, back to bed I go. Although I really did plan on sleeping through the rest of the night, I ended up awake every hour but did not find any more puppies.
She seems to be done, although her belly sure seemed bigger than just 3 puppies. She has a TON of milk; these two puppies are going to be fast growers for sure!

In other news for day...
- We owe a HUGE thanks to Mom for coming to babysit the new mother & dealing with way more than she bargained for.
- During the height of hecticness both at home & at my new job, Mom calls to tell me that the electricity went out at the house. Long story, short is that somehow I ended up getting online billing, since I didn't know I was getting online billing, I never got my bills. After some fast keyboards strokes, they turned the juice back on.
- I found out that my boss is out of the the office tomorrow by accident. He's a nice guy, but the term "absent-minded professor" comes to mind. He plans for me to go to another store for some cross-training & I sign up for an online course with the folks who do our website.
- The boss tells me around 1:30 that he is leaving at 3. His big concern? Do I have enough to do? HELLO? The office is a disaster area, I have two graphic design projects to work on (btw, I'm not a graphic designer!) & he has given a bunch of other little projects as well. Yes, I have enough to do.
