The best cashier
September 19th, 2007 09:57 pmThis evening on my way home, I stopped by a little local shop for a drink. They were getting ready to close up for the evening & letting their little platinum-haired girl help with the last few customers. As I placed my drink on the counter, she had the UPC scan gun all ready - held tight in both hands & ready to aim. This little girl was maybe 5 years old.
I threw up my arms & cried "Don't shoot!" which made all of the adults laugh, but the little cashier had her mind set on "zapping" my drink. She asked me, "Will that be all Ma'am?" just as sweet as can be. I let her know all I needed was a drink because I was very thirsty. She was all set to give me change from my purchase, but her mom had to remind her that I paid with a credit card & didn't get any. She seemed disappointed.
I asked her if she was being paid well for all her hard work & she said no & then informed me that her Daddy was mean, pointing him out to me. Then she confessed that her dad had bought her some gum & let he "work" in the store. That big old meanie man. LOL
When I retrieved my drink from the counter, she commented, "You have really pretty nails, Ma'am!" & I thanked her. She confided in me that she bites her nails & showed me the proof. I bent down & asked if she wanted to know a secret - which, of course, she did - so I told her that if my nails are not painted all pretty, I bite mine too.
She stood up from our little secret session & loudly proclaimed, "I bite my toenails TOO!" with a sense of pride that only a little kid can have.
What a great few moments after a long day!
