It seems that we have gone straight from a brisk spring into the dog days of summer. The temperature for the next several days is expected to be around 100 degrees with the humidity hovering in the oppressive percentage range. This makes the heat index approximately 413 degrees on any scale.
On Wednesday evening we had an absolutely wicked storm blow through. Wicked enough that we spent part of it in the basement. The decision to head to the basement was made when we couldn't see the trees in our back yard anymore since the rain was coming down in a steady wall of water.
Speaking of trees in our yard, we now have less of them. The storm took out a few ... including a large oak in our front yard that fell across the road (thankfully not on our house!). This particular tree was in good company since 8 other trees fell across our road at various points along its 2.5 mile length.
At least 3 tress had their tops sheared off & will have to be cut down. One leaning tree by Brian's garage will have to come down as well. The whole yard is covered with leaves & branches.
Our power was out for several hours & came back at some point during the night.
Brian & I went out for about 2 hours VERY early this morning to get a bit of clean up done before the heat got too bad. We were able to make a little dent in the mess, but there is lot more to be done.
