Super Saturday
October 11th, 2008 08:20 pmBrian & I went out to the place on Mount Pony Road this morning for a bow hunt. Since yours truly forget her cell phone, Brian & I set up close to one another. (We've been using the cell phones rather than the walkie talkies to stay in touch while in the woods.) This made me feel a bit more at ease, since Brian ran into someone trying to get into a tree stand last week.
It seems that Brian saw mostly the insides of his eyelids, while I saw two deer traveling through the woods (too far for a shot though). They didn't hear or smell me, which is always nice reassurance. Another awesome morning to be in the woods though ... a female gold finch landed inches away from me & a Blue Jay came into about 6 feet away. There are a LOT of squirrels in these woods & this morning they did not even chatter at my being there.
This evening I went out behind the house & set up by the pond that our neighbors have. Got almost everything set & realized I didn't have my cocking device for the crossbow! After retrieving the cocking device, I settled in & shortly thereafter 2 yearlings came right by the pond. Sadly, I could not maneuver around enough to get off a shot ... they came in to about 22-24 yards & both presented me with nice shots. If only I had been able to take one!
