November 15th, 2008 05:48 pmThe ex wasn't feeling so hot this morning, so I went hunting by myself in the rain. There was just a light rain - a heavy mist really - with very comfortable temperatures. All in all, a very nice morning to be in the woods except for the fact that I did not see a single deer.
Since we have so much to get accomplished around the house & otherwise, I came out of the woods early. The ex & I went to Fredericksburg so that he could get new tires on his truck. Even though his tires have a 60K mile warranty, he has only gotten about 35K miles out of them. After a huge wait while Michelin & the NTB tire guy figured out the pro-rate on the old tires, things finally got in motion. The bill was almost double what we had been expecting though. ugh
I should mention that this NTB dealer is located in Central Park. Not Central Park, NYC, but a HUGE shopping complex in Fredericksburg, VA. I mention this little tidbit of information because of the incredible amount of store closings we saw. Stores that were either already dark or ones with "going out of business" signs plastered everywhere.
Recession, anyone?
While the ex was in the tire place, I went over to the Bassett furniture store that was closing. With the prices marked on their furniture, it's no wonder why they are going out of business! Even the "bottom line clearance prices" made me choke. Bassett's quality has gone steeply downhill as well.
Another store that I decided to venture in was Linens-N-Things. The funny thing that I found here was that even the door said "everything must go" & "fixtures for sale" the best deal off any anything was 20%. LnT - similar to Bed, Bath & Beyond - used to put out discount coupons regularly. 20% is no big deal. They are most likely still making 10-40% profit. Needless to say, I walked out empty-handed.
The last stop before going home was Shopper's Food Warehouse). I've not shopped one in a while, but have always liked the stores I have been to. Not so of the Central Park location. Piss-poor layout (Ketchup with the condiments? What was I thinking???) & the most frustrating self checkout lane ever. No thanks!
