Gobble Gobble
November 27th, 2008 09:21 pmAfter leaving work early yesterday because I was feeling puny & feverish, I hit Aldi's for some last minute shopping. Upon arriving home, I curled up in bed & slept for 2 hours. Brian woke me up when he got home & we unloaded the Endeavor & set about doing what needed to be done.
Art & Kathleen (our NJ friends) made awesome time traveling down in their RV, arriving just after 10 pm.
dreamtigress & Peter (whose LJ name escapes me at the moment) about 20 minutes later. They brought their newly acquired dog, Corva with them ... a fact that will be important later on in the story.
Early in the morning, we started fixing a big Thanksgiving breakfast featuring Brian's deer gravy, biscuits, a spinach quiche, turkey bacon, & I am not even sure what else. For desert, we sliced into the top of our wedding cake - yummy carrot cake which tasted just as good as it did a year ago!
We had a grand time, although a much too short of a visit with
dreamtigress & Peter (whose LJ name still escapes me). Since they would be gone on my birthday, I got to open my present -
dreamtigress made a necklace & earring set for me featuring a coin she had made for me at Faire & all sorts of wonderful gemstones; I also got a bottle of Lambric! YAY! We had some fun romping with the dogs & shooting acorns with various implements of destruction. The dogs all got along well ... a fact that will be important later on in the story.
Around noon, Brian & I left our guests (an odd feeling for me) to head for his Aunt's house to have Thanksgiving dinner with his family - including ten family members from Hawaii. As you might imagine, the Hawaiian crowd does not get stateside often (& we never seem to get there) so this was a pretty big deal. It was wonderful to visit with them again & meet some of the Island family we have not met before.
We headed for home & were within sight of the house lights when my cell phone rang. It seems that in the hustle & bustle of folks getting ready to go, Tucker & Corva had a little altercation. Keep in mind, gentle reader, that Tucker is an Am Staff (pit bull) of rather huge proportions while Corva is a small mixed-breed lass.
As we pulled in the driveway, we saw a small crowd around the victim ... none other than Tucker with a half-inch gash in his ear. Seems he got a little too close to Corva when she was getting nervous about seeing her new humans preparing to depart. Her teeth found a small vein in Tucker's ear & apparently before my own guests cleaned the house up, it looked like a crime scene.
In a perfect world, this gash would take 3-4 stitches to close, but an ER visit late on a holiday evening was not an option. Not to mention that ears are awfully tricky to repair anyhow. With help from Mom & Kathleen, I bandaged Tucker's ear & the bleeding mostly stopped. With the main drama over, we sent
dreamtigress & Peter on their way.
Before going to bed, I checked Tucker's ear & decided to change the bandage. The new bandage lasted approximately 1 minute before he shook it off. By the time I got him re-bandaged & all the blood cleaned up, he had gotten new bandage number two off. This time I held pressure on his ear until it stopped, gooped it up with antibiotic ointment, held my breath & went to bed after cleaning up more blood all over the place.
