Gobble Gobble, part 2
November 28th, 2008 10:05 pmHappy birthday to me.
My morning started with taking care of Tucker's ear - which thankfully did not spew blood overnight.
After fixing breakfast for the 4 of us, it was time to start preparations for the day's turkey dinner. Once again, our turkey was compliments of Brian's hunting skill. This year's bird was a young jake whose breast meat was the whitest I have seen yet on a wild turkey. To go with our wild bird, I made mashed cheesy rutabaga, baked sweet potatoes, stuffing, sauteed yellow squash & some more stuff that I can't remember anymore. Mom whipped up some really yummy gravy. We also finished up the leftover bacon-wrapped water chestnuts from yesterday.
And then there was pie. Somehow, even after all the pie jokes & warnings from previous years, we had more pies than people. 2 pecan pies, 2 sugar-free pumpkin pies, 1 sugar-free apple pie, 1 apple crumb pie, 1 regular pumpkin pie, 1 sugar-free cherry pie, 1 chocolate chip cookie pie, 1 blueberry pie & the top of our wedding cake. WHEW!
Brian - who forgot a card - gave me my present in the morning (well, OK, after I asked him if I could get it early since I knew what it was). Yay for Clinque facial moisturizer! I've been out for quite some time, trying to make do with less expensive products (which have all sucked). It's a huge dispenser & part of the proceeds go towards breast cancer research. He also got me a very nice pair of black onyx/tiger-eye earrings. Thanks, B!
Compliments of Art & Kathleen, I will get to go on a shopping jaunt to Bed, Bath & Beyond AND Wawa as well as eat homemade chocolate cookies. Thanks, guys!
Mom hooked me up with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, money for Starbucks, dark chocolate & shiny crystal earrings. Thanks, Mom!
