DMV = yuck
November 19th, 2009 10:49 pmSaw the chiropractor who cracked me up several times. Get it? That's punny.
Afterward I went to the VA DMV office in Fredericksburg. The overpowering smell of urine in the foyer 'greeted' me when I entered and I knew then that I was in for a treat.
VA DMV now does the vast majority of its procedures online. They have won all sorts of fancy awards for their website and revenue-making ideas. In fact, in the Commonwealth, they now charge a $5 surcharge if you want to do a transaction in the office that could be handled online.
Due to "National Security" VA DMV no longer hands you a driver's license. You must renew in the office but they MAIL your license to you since apparently USPS has never experienced any sort of mail fraud.
After waiting for an hour and 20 minutes the number on my little ticket get called and I felt as though I had won the lottery. I left $48 poorer and will get my new license in the mail in 2 weeks.
What a system!
My renewal is in 2017 and I sure hope they have some sort of better renewal process in place by then!
