Since it was raining this morning the roofing crew could not start work. They will however be here bright and early tomorrow morning. As in 6:45 am. Yikers, I've not gotten up that early in a while!
The current plan for the roofing project is as follows:
Wednesday, April 6 - Remove old roof and do the roof repair. The goal is to get the entire old roof off and as much tar paper/ice dam down as possible before dark.
Thursday, April 7 - Finish prep and then new roof goes on.
Friday, April 8 - Finish project, roll yard with magnets and clean up.
Shingles will be delivered once they can be delivered directly to the roof to save hoisting them up from the ground which is a smart move.
We've decided to go ahead and have the gutters replaced. It's been tough deciding whether or not to do it. There is nothing inherently really wrong with the existing gutter (there are some spikes that are pulling out) however the chance of the gutters coming through the roofing project unscathed is very slim. At least with the new gutters we will have one less thing to worry about going wrong on the house.
Today's mini house project was one that I've wanted to do for a while now ... updating the floor vents. What I had really to do years ago was to replace all of the vents with a much sexier version. Sexy designs on floor vents are not cheap and this type of thing falls into the category of a want not a need. It dawned on me last year that I could paint the old vents which give them a new life and design all at the same. Enter my superhero
daecabhir who not only didn't roll his eyes at me when i suggested this little project but bought the can of spray paint as well.
Once it stopped raining I realized that it was warm enough to spray paint so I gathered up all of the vents, scrubbed them clean and then sanded them. Many of the original vents had some rust spots which I took care. The newer vents (including one white one) just needed some scuffing for the new paint to stick. So for about a $300 savings we'll have "new and improved" floor vents.
