Who would have thought...
September 24th, 2012 09:50 pm... that I could be _this_ tired?
This weekend at MDRF was full of a few surprises. The biggest one is that I spent two days selling pottery. A lot of pottery. Not my pottery.
Terry Tessem, the potter whose work I have admired for a long time and own quite a few of pieces, needed help in his booth because one of his helpers is in the hospital and I was happy to help him since he has done so much for me. Truly it was his saying "just do it" that got the ball rolling and since then he has been most helpful with tips and even some equipment. He's been playing with clay for over 40 years and has probably forgotten more about pottery than I will ever learn.
Terry's shop is a jumping joint and we worked hard on both days sending folks home with stoneware. Terry's approach is a curious. He doesn't take credit cards but does accept personal checks. He also sent a few customer away with pottery with the promise of them sending him a check in the mail. He said he rarely gets stiffed. (One lady refused to leave without paying and borrowed the cash from a friend rather than leave a shop without paying.)
Throughout my time with him this weekend, Terry would give me hints on to make a certain dish or how to create a rim on a plate or some other wonderful tidbit from his wealth of knowledge. He also brought in half a dozen bats for me from his studio and a fabulous mold/trim tool that he created (which he ought to patent). Next week he said he have a set of calibers for me. He also let me know which tools should be on my studio 'must have' list.
All that and he still took
daecabhir and I out to dinner and gifted me with one of his awesome teapots.
Speaking of my most wonderful and sweet husband, on Saturday he sent me a rose via our red-headed rose-peddling friend, Keegan; but on Sunday the love of my life completely surprised me with a red rose which he presented to me after sneaking behind the sales counter and getting down on one knee.
Oh yes ... and there was kilt. My man can rock a kilt! He looked dashing on both days - even more so once we found him a proper kilt belt from our friend Larry. Hopefully the kilt will get another run at faire before the season is over.
I probably have more to say about the week and weekend but my head is truly mush so I will be heading to bed shortly.
PS: If you have a moment, please think good thoughts for my friend
1painter42 and her husband - they could really use it about now. Thanks.
