The calm before the storm
October 29th, 2012 09:39 amLiterally ... we are waiting for a huge storm (part nor'easter and part hurricane) to hit us. There has been a steady rain falling and it's the type of storm that is not going anywhere fast. The heavy winds are expected by this afternoon and it could get a little crazy. We're as ready as we can be ... buckets filled with water, everything is charged up, gutters checked, etc. Due to the storm,
daecabhir is home today and most likely tomorrow too and we'll try to make the most of it - even though it wasn't planned time off.
Since the power companies came under tremendous fire for long customer outages during the last few storms (and there has been plenty of advance warning of this storm) they have been working hard to make sure that when the power goes out, it can be restored quickly. One article mentioned 20,000 electricity workers in from other areas to help. Hopefully if/when we lose power, it won't be for too long.
Knitting for the holidays has begun! The first project off the looms is a pink hat for our niece, Noelle. There are three Jayne hats to knit, another beanie, a fun hat (style to be determined) and a scarf. That's not to mention a few things that I had already planned on knitting for folks before the requests came in.
Studio time this week was mostly productive ... the second day that I got to throw, my cylinders were much better and I made two glasses and a mug that look promising. Hopefully once the storm has cleared out and power is not an issue, I will be able to run a bisque firing. I'd like to have some additional stock for the upcoming Augusta Expo show on November 10-11.
Speaking of shows, Saturday's show at the Salem Baptist Church went well - the show seems well organized and I had decent sales, not to mention awesome help from my awesome husband.
Yesterday we visited with
1painter42 and her husband, Paul, who is in the hospital. They don't call it hospice anymore really, but that is what it is. Please send them both some positive energy, thoughts, prayers, etc.
