That'll teach me ...
February 12th, 2013 12:29 amI don't play tennis. After trying the game in elementary school and not having much talent for it, I have not picked up a racket in over 35 years.
I do, however, have tennis elbow.
Seem that last week when I filled our wood rack, while I was careful to not overload the wheelbarrow and to lift it with my knees and all that, I most likely wretched my 'tennis' muscles with firewood.
Rest, ice, massage, icy-hot, and ibuprofen will all be my friends for the next week.
Really, the tennis elbow thing is minor compared to the other issue that I have had going on for the past few weeks. Turns out the nagging hip pain that popped up last month is bursitis - in both sides. The recommended treatment is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. This is the same treatment that I underwent several years ago for the planar fasciitis in my left foot and right shoulder rotator cuff. The good news is that treatment was successful in both cases. The bad news is that it hurt like HELL. The shoulder wasn't too bad, not pleasant by any means, but tolerable. The heel injection, on the other hand, would make most forms of torture look tame. Dr. Truong informed that she now gives patients Valium for the procedure.
Other options include cortisone injections (not a permanent fix) or trigger point injections (not as promising, would take longer and almost as costly).
For now - as per doctor orders - no treadmill, no exercise, nothing strenuous, and minimize stair usage.
Dr. Truong teased me and said, "See what happens when you keep getting younger?"
