Not really a good day...
December 5th, 2013 10:40 pmTook Tucker to Charlottesville for an ultrasound of his abdomen. They found that his liver was indeed enlarged and the vet discovered that he was bruising easily; additionally she saw several highly suspicious nodules on his spleen. After getting some sub-q fluids and meds, we loaded up and headed up for home. Since I hadn't eaten, I grabbed a quick bite at the Wendy's in Ruckersville. I would live to regret this decision.
After getting Tucker home and comfortable, I went out to run some errands, get his script for amoxicillin filled, etc. By the time I got home, it was getting late and almost time for Greg's phone commute-home phone call. My tummy was feeling a little blarghy, but my tummy tends to do that a lot so I wasn't too concerned.
While
daecabhir and I chatted, I started feeling worse. And worse. And worse still. Finally I told him that I thought I might be getting ready to get sick and if I hung up without warning, that would be why. Sure enough, it hit and hit hard. Pretty much by the time I was done throwing up, I realized that I probably had a case of food poisoning. Ugh! I've had it once before and it is not a pleasant ordeal.
By the time
daecabhir got home, I had been sick several times and was in a lot of pain. I will spare you, my gentle reader, from the gory details because they were, in fact, quite gory. We made the decision to take me some place for help and since I wasn't much, well, help, my amazing husband sorted out where to go and attempted to get me ready for transport. Of course, every time we got ready to head out the door, I would get sick again and the process started all over.
We finally hit the road to the Patient First in F'burg since it took so long to get me out the door that our two closer options were closed. While they treated me as best they could, it was obvious that I was still very sick so off to the emergency room we went. After getting sick several times during the wait, we were called back to the ER and this is where things start to get a bit blurry for me. The following is largely what
daecabhir accounting of what happened along with my little glimpses of lucidity.
Apparently, I got a lot of shots, some of which helped and some of which didn't which evident by my large amount of pain and spewing sickness. An IV was installed, and more drugs - stronger drugs - got added to the mix. My blood pressure went down and they withheld some drugs, then when it evened out, I got more drugs. The drugs made my mouth very dry and I ate a lot of ice which
daecabhir fed me until I said I had had enough (or I passed out again). The entire night was spent in the ER - of which, I have little recollection - only that every time I opened my eyes, my husband was at my side. I remember the ER doctor poking his head through the curtain and looking concerned and me thinking that ER docs see everything and if he looks worried than I must be really sick.
More to come...
