Fortunately things are happening fast since the adorkable duo cannot wait to be in the "one home" together.
Monday is mostly a blur. I know there was packing during the day as well as babying my knee a bit. Mostly I tried to stay to one level of the house for an extended period of time. Monday evening, i was invited out to dinner with the wonderful VIPs from the center again. Truly an honor! Found parking not horribly far away, managed to parallel park the Endeavor easily and found my dinner companions on the first try. Dinner was wonderful (bourbon salmon with sweet potato french fries and cole slaw) and, of course, the conversation was delightful.
Tuesday - Purple Heart came for their scheduled pick up nice and early but it seems that they (at least in Baltimore) no longer pick up furniture. Too bad no one has informed their webmaster. At least we had other things to donate so their trip was not wasted. Since the furniture didn't go, I popped it on Craigslist and it was claimed right away and as it turns out, it went to the perfect home.
With all of that out of the way,
dreamtigress and I made plans to do lunch and pedicures. She's been such a _huge_ help to both
daecabhir and I that I wanted to thank her with a special treat.
Unfortunately the City of Baltimore had a little "treat" for me in the form of another freaking parking ticket. Charm City, my ass! Until recently, I had ever only gotten ONE parking ticket in my whole life. Now I have gotten two in a very short period of time. Another $52 down the drain. At the rate that I see tickets being issued and cars booted in this city, they should not be complaining about any budget woes at all.
dreamtigress and I had a scrumptious lunch at Kumari, ran an errand for my honey and then had our pedicures. By special request, my toes are now a cute shade of pinkish magenta.
And this is where the story takes another cruel twist. With freshly painted toes, we headed to Safeway to pick up a few items. Seems there was a very small amount of water on the floor and yours truly found it. The ensuing wipe-out was one of those falls that happens in slow motion. Breaking my fall was my already injured knee and my left hand. Fortunately another shopper saw it happen and helped me to my feet. After speaking with the management and giving all the needed information, we finished our shopping. I have to admit that the fall left me a little nonplussed.
And another thing, the fall messed up the polish on one of my newly-painted toes adding insult to injury (literally).
I wish that I could tell you that the little mishap adventure stopped there, I really do.
However [comma] when
dreamtigress and I were walking back towards the Endeavor, the security feature on the shopping cart stopped our cart with approximately the same force that is required to stop, oh, let's say, a speeding locomotive. Since I was not expecting the cart to stop rolling, my only response was to ram my right ankle into the cart's metal frame as hard as humanly possible.
Seriously? First the slip in the produce section and then an assault by a shopping cart.
Once I had feeling in my toes (the newly painted ones if you recall), we hobbled back to the Endeavor and headed to
dreamtigress house where she administered ibuprofen, a heating pad for my back and ice packs for my other boo-boos. She also sent me home with a bottle of Saint Germain since our supply is already at the country home. Once I was feeling back to sorts, I removed Corva-dog's stitches and then headed back to city home.
Warning: Pandas get wonderfully protective and concerned about their mates when their mates do really ridiculous injuries to themselves.
daecabhir called me when he was on his way home to check on me and stayed on the phone with me until he was coming up the stairs. Totally silly perhaps, but I loved every second of it.
Wednesday - Somehow we managed to get up at a decent hour and thought we were getting a certain someone off to work early.
However [comma] I would like to tell you that that really happened and everyone lived happily ever after but I can't.
Seems the sidewalk outside of the city house (that has a 3 inch upwards shift) tripped
daecabhir and sprawled him on the sidewalk, twisting his ankle in the process. I didn't see it happen, but did hear the cursing. There was a lot of cursing. One of the stoop dwellers next door offered to help us, as did a City of Baltimore employee who had seen what was going on (he even drove the wrong way on our one-way street to get to us), but my injured Panda just needed a bit of time to get his bearings and hobbled into the house. After ice packs, ibuprofen and an Ace bandage later, one limping man was back on his way to work.
So, there you have it ... two peas, one pod and two swollen ankles.
