pandasheart: Panda's Heart (pony welcome)
Cricket was resting much more comfortably yesterday afternoon in Mom's great care. Since she has not been interested in drinking much, we set about a way to get some sub-Q fluids in her. Since I no longer have any vet-med contacts & lactated ringers is now a script-only item, my ever-resourceful Mother found a convoluted way for us to obtain some.

After work, I drove out to a pharmacy in Culpeper & picked up 9 cases of ringers & then drove them out to an animal refuge in Orange County. In exchange for making the delivery, we were given 3 bags of ringers & an IV set-up. Then I drove to Mom's house in Rixeyville where I found Cricket all snuggled up in a box. She was sort of still out of it, but somewhat coherent. After loading her up with fluids & a quick bite to eat, I headed home.

This morning Mom & I decided (both individually & together) to bring Cricket to a vet in Culpeper that the refuge folks had recommended. X-rays revealed a broken elbow which may or may not be repairable. They gave Cricket some pain meds & antibiotics & was sent back home with Mom. We'll keep up the sub-Q fluids as well.

This afternoon, Cricket drank some broth & ate a little meat that Mom had cooked for her. Mom says Cricket is much more alert now. ::: happy dance ::: We're going to give the elbow a few days & see how it looks, even with surgery, things may not turn out & we may be looking at amputation.

To top things off, I woke up this morning with some incredible back pain. I'm not sure why they say that you "throw your back out" ... I know exactly where my back is because it hurts like hell!
