Beach bums
July 26th, 2006 05:00 pmToday is beach day! With the ex's family, that means we pile into any & all vehicles that are capable of driving on the beach & head to Corolla. Yes, ON the beach. For those not acquainted, that's how it's done in the OBX.
With the Dodge out of commission, we headed out with the ex's brother's family. Even though we are not that far from Corolla, the drive takes a while due to the low speed limit & beach traffic. Once we hit sand, the drive still takes a while because we have to find the "right" spot.
Once we have found "the spot", we set up shop. We've packed plenty of drinks, food & sun screen. Watching the kids in the surf is a blast; our two older nephews do very well in the water, but the little one (3 year old Matthew) is not so sure about the ocean.
Matthew eventually gets his feet wet via wrestling with a boogie board. The build up to this event was hysterical to watch. The boy sets the board down about 15 feet from the water, stands on it & does all the surfing gyration that a 3 year old can muster. Eventually we coax him to the water's edge where he learns that it's a bit more fun when you actually get wet.
Despite the ex's coaxing, I pretty much stay out of the water. Swimming around with jellyfish, minnows & minute shrimps is just not my cup of tea. I love animals, but I don't really want to swim in them.
The highlight of the day had to have been when Matthew comes up to the adults who were all sitting at the waterline, facing the ocean. From the back, the ex & his brother, David, look an awfully a lot alike; especially to a 3 year old. Matt climbed right into Brian's lap, hugged him & started telling his "Daddy" something. The look on his face when he realized that he was not in Daddy's lap was awesome!
I truly thought the guys were going to hurt themselves laughing! To "top" this, they swapped places & sure enough, the next time Matt came to us, he was very careful to go to the "right" spot to find Daddy, only to end up in the ex's lap again. Again, the look on the boy's face was priceless! The guys got Matt once more before the afternoon was over.
Those Robertson boys!
