Condiment post (aka catch up)
October 28th, 2011 06:49 pmWhile I kept meaning to post an update from our last weekend of faire, I've not gotten around to it, so here goes nothing!
While we had already mused about going up to Maryland on last Friday, our plans when were set when we received that
daecabhir's former father-in-law had passed away during the week and that the wake would be Friday night with the funeral on Saturday. After _much_ debate, we decided that I would accompany him on Friday but not Saturday since my presence was required at
dreamtigress's booth.
Things went as well as can be expected Friday night and while I wish the circumstances had been better, it was good to see
daecabhir's family again and also to meet many folks who have known him for a long time. Since I couldn't be with my partner on Saturday, I am very grateful that he was surrounded with loving friends and family.
The last weekend of MDRF is always a bittersweet affair - you want it to be over and you want it to last forever at the same time. The weather was brisk but beautiful - allowing us to enjoy hot apple cider. Lots of friends stopped by to say hello and goodbye. Lady luck was with us and the weekend sales were decent for
dreamtigress, which put my mind at ease a fair bit.
The roses ... my wonderful sister had
daecabhir and I presented with three red roses ~ one for yesterday, one for today and one for all of the tomorrows.
Saturday night - about 20 faire folk went to Killarney House for dinner. Having dinner here was, of course, very special to
daecabhir and I since it was a year ago that a certain man came to dinner with a certain bunch of faire folks and two lives were changed forever. We received lots of anniversary wishes and
dreamtigress treated us to a very chocolately dessert. There was, as you no doubt have guessed, some smooching in the parking lot.
Sunday - Since Saturday was an odd day all around, we agreed to do presents on Sunday instead of at Killarney House as previously planned. Oddly enough (or not) we both had a present that we wanted to give the other before the day got started.
daecabhir had me stand with eyes closed and hands open and I felt something plunk down into my palms. When I opened my eyes and saw what was in my hand I burst out laughing. I then had
daecabhir close his eyes and repeated the same process to him. The room filled with his booming laughter when he saw what I had gotten him ... we bought each other the same pewter in that has the word SHINY on it!
We are dorks. Adorkable dorks.
daecabhir really blew me away with his thoughtfulness when I opened my big gift - he had told me there was a theme and indeed there was. He got me everything I needed to start loom knitting! Two sets of looms, lots of beautiful yarn, a book to help me get underway and a hand-thrown yarn bowl. He also got me socks that say 'bitch' (as well pink pentagram ones). Truth in advertising as he likes to say. LOL
Sunday's dinner was at the Double T Diner as always. Lucky for me, they had lemon chicken soup which happens to be one of the best soups on the planet.
Monday - Since we stayed with
insegnante and
renniecub for the entire weekend (thanks guys!) we were able to hit bizarre bazaar and speak with Peter, the talented man who is making shoes for us. It was also a bit nostalgic since we ended up at faire on the last Monday last year as well. I did end up buying a very pretty scarf while perusing what folks had out to sell. Once we emptied ALL of our things from the booth, we hit the road and made our home.
I'm very grateful to
daecabhir for making it possible that I could go to faire for pretty much the entire run (minus the time we were on vacation) so that I could help
dreamtigress. The fact that he was willing to come with me was simply amazing. He made a wonderful 'booth steward' and is the best 'eye candy' this girl could hope for.
One year of shiny down ~ forever to go.
