What a weekend (and week)
May 15th, 2012 07:47 pmThe past week is a bit of a blur with grocery shopping, party shopping, errands, me not feeling well, and prepping the house for Mom's 70th birthday party on the 12th. On Thursday the 10th,
daecabhir went up to Baltimore for a few things - including
dreamtigress. On the 11th, the two sisters kicked butt and did some serious cleaning. While
dreamtigress worked inside, I did things like blow the driveway, deck, front porch, etc. and then took the pressure washer to the deck. We were still working away into the evening and my most wonderful (and wise) Panda took us out for dinner (Bella J. Cucina in Locust Grove).
Saturday the 12th - Mom's 70th birthday - we were blessed to have many of our friends and family join us to help Mom celebrate her birthday!
daecabhir did a fine job of manning the grills while I tried to keep things moving smoothly inside the house. There's nothing like making the vegetarian grill a ton of meat for everyone.
dreamtigress put together not one, but two, slideshows for the event - one with lots of pictures of mom over the years and another one of the adorkable duo's wedding.
Not only was having Uncle Richard come down was a bit of surprise, but he brought us the gift of bagels. Real bagels from NJ! Here in Virginia, they sell round, baked dough things with a whole in the middle that they call bagels but they are just not the same.
daecabhir and I enjoyed some of them fresh and have put the rest in the freezer for future noms.
The biggest surprise of the day for me came in the form of making my very first pottery sales. Cousin David and Uncle Joe, respectively, made the first two purchases of Prancing Pony Pottery! It was most unexpected but all parties seem quite happy. Most everyone wanted the studio tour and I was happy to show them 'the place where magic happens' according to
anfadh.
Too soon and the evening was over.
Too soon and it was morning!
Once everyone (
insegnante,
renniecub, Mike, Ann,
dreamtigress,
daecabhir and myself) were awake, fed, showered and garbed up, off we went to VARF (the VA Ren faire) for the day. The VA faire is a small one but it grows a little bit each year. We got to catch
dansr's show at the pub and spend some time talking to Kay from NC. Kettle corn was procured later in the day, just in time to munch through the Surly Mermaids. We saw several folks from MDRF and I ran into two former CFC co-workers. There was chain-maille ogling (uber cute earrings made of lilac-colored rings), yarn fondling (alpaca blend bulky) and steel stroking (a very sexy knife made by the blacksmith from a horse shoe that had a horsehead in the handle). Alas, we came home empty-handed as the knife has no real purpose for me, the yarn got sold by the time I went back for it and I forgot to go buy the earrings!
We'll be hitting VARF again in June - at least once, if not twice. YAY!
